Ponte Vedra

Beach House by Bunsa Studio in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL

This beach house renovation was the third project our studio embarked upon with this client, a family of five. The house was inspired by New England cottage style, a nod to the coastal homes built on this boulevard in the 1930s. Our goal was to bring back that charm and create a warm, family friendly environment without sacrificing an elegant edge. With no exposed drywall throughout the house, we placed focus on materiality decorative lighting, and collectible design elements.

Throughout the home we used cypress planks, including pecky cypress, which adds texture and warmth. On the ground level, we implemented a vertical painted board with very minimal joints for the walls and ceilings. Vintage lighting sourced from across the US and Europe pairs with contemporary classic pieces from Lindsey Adelman, Dimore Studio, Apparatus, and Allied Maker.

In terms of spatial upgrades, we collaborated with Henrybuilt to enlarge the kitchen, creating an organized and functional space for this family that prioritizes daily cooking rituals. Calacatta Viola marble slabs deliver a dramatic effect as the kitchen connects different areas of the house and can be viewed from many angles. While creating a casual space for the family to dine, the banquette serves to extends the kitchen all the way to the front of the house.

In collaboration with our client, we selected and procured all finishes and furnishings, including vintage lighting and furniture to pair with modern classics and custom designs. The study, a room adjoining the primary bedroom, features a custom-made drapery by Adam Pogue, which serves to reinforce this emphasis on craftsmanship and handmade pieces. The dining room includes a custom rug from Christopher Farr, a vintage Guillerme et Chambron sideboard, vintage Scarpa chairs, and a new claro walnut dining table made in Hudson, NY by Fern.
