The Lodge

“The Lodge” is the latest addition to a family retreat in New York’s Finger Lakes region. The owner’s passion for wood work inspired the timber frame beams and columns constructed of repurposed wood from two historic, reclaimed barns. Furthermore, select furnishings and the hardwood flooring was reclaimed and restored from century old bog oak dredged from the Erie Canal. To accommodate the growing family with as many as 19 members visiting at a time, a large oak, walnut, and brass table designed by artist, Fitzhugh Karol, sits between the kitchen and living room and serves as the main focal point upon entry. This project remains true to the The Brooklyn Home Company's ethos of white, wood and traditional materiality but it also incorporates a commitment to eco-conscious construction with geothermal wells to produce a low-cost and low-carbon footprint for heating and cooling the property, and spray foam insulation throughout for energy efficiency.
