Upper East Side Apartment

Apartment by Michael Haverland Architect in New York, NY

Original detail and texture are restored in this full floor of a limestone mansion on the Upper East Side, but by using new technology and fabrication techniques. Paneling is made from laser-cut sheets of composite wood and installed as prefabricated units, rather than hand made on site. Three-dimensional wallpaper was derived from the original English wallpaper pattern and laser cut into 1/4" deep panels, clipped to the walls, in a repeat system like conventional wallpaper patterns. The wall is lacquered gold to brighten the corridor between the front and back of the space. The kitchen conceals all appliances, and reads as a luxurious bar made of gray porcelain panels trimmed in polished aluminum.
