Von Leach Residence

Von Leach Residence is a family home, built for atmosphere and preservation of charm. An existing Californian Bungalow, loved at first sight for all of its scars and patina created by a century of past lives. Drizzled with arts + crafts intent. this charm and character formed the design intent to preserve and amplify all of the authentic and ageless stories. My design practice is always centred around atmosphere. The strategy of contrast was employed to amplify all of the imperfections and romantic ideas. Colour, light, materials and proportions were all contrasted to offer variations of spaces, and drama in the existing portion. Subtle hints of the craftsman and arts + crafts ideals are seen in all of the steel fabrication, made on site by the owner Von Steel.
