Large Museum Scale Surrealist Composition Dalí Circle Catalan Oil Painting art

By Antoni Pitxot

Located in Sitges, Barcelona

Large Museum Scale Surrealist Composition Dalí Circle Catalan Painting 1987 Artist: Antoni Pitxot Birth–death: Figueres, 1934–2015 Title: Battle of Constantine Series Date: 1987 Technique: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 100 × 100 cm (39.4 × 39.4 in) Signature: Signed and dated “pitxot 87” lower right Condition: Excellent overall condition Frame: Unframed Provenance: Private collection, Barcelona DESCRIPTION Important large-scale surrealist oil painting executed in 1987 by Antoni Pitxot, one of the closest artistic collaborators of Salvador Dalí and a central figure within the visual universe of the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres. This powerful 100 × 100 cm composition belongs to Pitxot’s Battle of Constantine series, one of the artist’s most ambitious narrative cycles. In this work, his unmistakable geological figuration becomes a theatrical surrealist battlefield, where mineral forms, latent human presences, fossil memory and Mediterranean landscape merge into a monumental symbolic construction. Pitxot’s mature paintings are instantly recognizable for their transformation of stones into anthropomorphic figures and metaphysical architectures. Rather than depicting a conventional landscape, the artist creates a stage of petrified forms, suspended between archaeology, sculpture, mythology and dream imagery. The work is especially strong for its museum-scale square format, its dramatic vertical construction and its direct connection with the Dalí circle. Large paintings by Pitxot with this level of compositional complexity are considerably less common than his smaller cabinet-format works and are particularly attractive for collectors of Spanish surrealism, Catalan modernism, European surrealism and artists connected to Salvador Dalí. A major statement piece with exceptional wall presence, ideal for an important private collection, curated interior or collector focused on late twentieth-century European surrealism. ARTIST BIO Antoni Pitxot (Figueres, 1934 – Cadaqués, 2015) was a Catalan painter and one of the most significant artists associated with Salvador Dalí’s late artistic environment. Born into the historic Pichot family, closely linked to the artistic life of Cadaqués, Pitxot studied drawing in San Sebastián under Juan Núñez, who had also been Dalí’s teacher. During the 1950s and early 1960s he exhibited in Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao and Lisbon before settling permanently in Cadaqués in 1966. From that moment, he developed his mature and highly distinctive pictorial language based on the rock formations of Cap de Creus. Pitxot collected stones from the coast, arranged them in his studio as sculptural constructions, and then transformed them into oil paintings populated by anthropomorphic mineral figures. His friendship and artistic collaboration with Salvador Dalí became central to his career. Dalí dedicated a permanent gallery to Pitxot’s work inside the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres. After Dalí’s death...

"Lendas Africanas Da Bahia" from the suite.

Located in San Francisco, CA

This artwork titled " Lendas Africanas Da Bahia" from the suite, 1978, is an original colors woodcut by renown Brazilian/Argentinian artist Hector Julio Paride Barnabo Carybe, 1911-1997. It is hand signed and numbered 83/200 in pencil by the artist. The Wood block mark (image) is 23.65 x 15.75 inches, sheet size is 26.75 x 19 inches. About the artist: Héctor Julio Páride Bernabó (7 February 1911 – 2 October 1997) was an Argentine-Brazilian artist, researcher, writer, historian and journalist. His nickname and artistic name, Carybé, a type of piranha, comes from his time in the scouts. He died of heart failure after the meeting of a candomblé community's lay board of directors, the Cruz Santa Opô Afonjá Society, of which he was a member. Quick Facts Born, Died ... Carybé Born Héctor Julio Páride Bernabó 7 February 1911 Lanús, Argentina Died 2 October 1997 (aged 86) Salvador, Bahia, Brazil Nationality Brazilian Known for Painter, engraver, draughtsman, illustrator, potter, sculptor, mural painter, researcher, historian and journalist Close He produced thousands of works, including paintings, drawings, sculptures and sketches. He was an Obá de Xangô, an honorary position at Ilê Axé Opô Afonjá. Orixá Panels in the Afro-Brazilian Museum in Salvador Some of Carybé's work can be found in the Afro-Brazilian Museum in Salvador: 27 cedar panels representing different orixás or divinities of the Afro-Brazilian religion candomblé. Each panel shows a divinity with their associated implements and animal. The work was commissioned by the former Banco da Bahia S.A., now Banco BBM S.A., which originally installed them in its branch on Avenida Sete de Setembro in 1968. Murals at Miami International Airport American Airlines, Odebrecht and the Miami-Dade Aviation Department partnered to install two of Carybé's murals at Miami International Airport. They have been displayed in the American Airlines terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York since 1960. The 16.5 x 53-foot murals were accredited when Carybé won the first and the second prize in a contest of public art pieces for JFK airport. As its terminal at that airport was due for demolition, American Airlines donated the murals to Miami-Dade County, and Odebrecht invested in a project to remove, restore, transport and install the murals at Miami International Airport. The mural "Rejoicing and Festival of the Americas" portrays colorful scenes from popular festivals throughout the Americas, and "Discovery and Settlement of the West" depicts the pioneers’ journey into the American West. Carybé's Woodcuts in Gabriel García Márquez's Books Carybé illustrated four books by the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, including One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Autumn of the Patriarch, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, and Love in the Time of Cholera "Carybé: um mestre da cultura baiana". ArqBahia Arquitetura, design, arte e lifestyle (in Brazilian Portuguese). 26 April 2023.. In particular, the woodcuts in One Hundred Years of Solitude are well-known for providing a visual image of the fictional town of Macondo, where the story takes place. The illustrations depict the colorful and winding houses, the railway bridge, and the hot and humid climate of the region, contributing to the reader's immersion in the story. Carybé's woodcuts are, therefore, an important part of Gabriel García Márquez's literary legacy, bringing a visual dimension to his stories that further enriches the reader's experience. Kipp Soldwedel Operation Sail New York Harbor Oil Painting

By Kipp Soldwedel

Located in Queens, NY

Kipp Soldwedel (American 1913-1999) "Operation Sail" oil on canvas Very rare painting depicting the arrival of all tall ships taking part of the New York Harbor Event in 1964 and Celebrating the Birth of America. Framed with brass nameplates for all the vessels / ships. President John F. Kennedy coined the name for the event. The name 'Operation Sail', was to be used again in 1976, 1989, 1992 & 2000. The painting is a water-level view of the International fleet, USS Forrestal aircraft carrier in background, and Statue of Liberty to the right. This was painted in 1976. Signed lower right. Verso signed, inscribed with artist's copyrights and dedicated lower right. Please note this painting hung in the Rotunda of the Statue of Liberty Monument on Liberty Island, New York Harbor on July 4, 1988. Without frame measuring 48" high by 70" wide. With frame: 58" high x 80" wide Marine artist Kipp Soldwedel studied fine arts at Yale University and was awarded four Beaux Arts medals. He received a scholarship to the American Academy in Rome. During World War II, he was a flight instructor and meteorologist for the United States Air Force. Kipp Soldwedel is most well known for his maritime battle scenes though he did paint over 150 portraits of celebrities. His illustrations appeared in magazines such as National Geographic, Time, Life, and Town and Country. Many of his paintings depicted the tall ships. He was the known as one of the greatest modren masters of Marine Paintings. 1964 The first Operation Sail event, a tie-in with the New York World's Fair, brought tall ships from around the world to New York Harbor for a grand parade of sail up the Hudson, led by the USCGC Eagle as the host ship. Many of the vessels raced from Plymouth, England, to Lisbon, Portugal, before setting off on a 3,000-mile transatlantic journey to Bermuda and then a 630-mile northwest run to New York. The event also featured lifeboat races, a ticker-tape parade up Broadway honoring seamen of every participating nation, and two grand balls. Mayor Robert Wagner proclaimed that week in July to be "Operation Sail Week," and Secretary of...

Abstract oil on canvas painting by Ivan Freitas. 25" x 31" inch canvas, framed to 30" x 36". It is signed at the lower right. Bearing a Barcinski Art Gallery label verso and a second label stating that the painting was sold in 1961 at a benefit auction for the Albert Einstein Hospital held at the Museum of San Paulo. Ivan Freitas was a Brazilian Postwar & Contemporary painter and Muralist (1932-2006) Son of muralist Severino Araújo, Ivan started painting as a self-taught artist. His first individual exhibition was at the Public Library, in 1957. With the success of the exhibition, he was able to move to Rio de Janeiro the following year, in 1958, where he came into contact with the work of artists such as Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte who influenced him. Between 1962 and 1963 he resided as a fellow in Paris. Between 1969 and 1972, he was on his second tour abroad, in New York City and commissioned by the International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation. Back in Brazil, he painted a mural of over a thousand square meters on the external wall of the National School of Music in Rio de Janeiro in 1984 - the first of the Arte nos Muros Project. Still in the 70s, he married Dalva Mendes Gall whom he left after his death in 200, an extensive collection where one can find all the best works of this renowned Paraiba artist in Brazil and abroad. The stay in New York, from 1969 to 1972, was perhaps the greatest turning point in Ivan's career. Until then, according to art critic Roberto Pontual, the plastic artist followed "a phase of abstraction close to the informal". In the United States , with so much technological influence around him, Ivan becomes interested in the machine and its movement mechanisms and inserts these perceptions in his works, as kinetic constructions with small motors hidden in boxes as Pontual defines, and also and triggering light patterns in cyclic and repeated series. (similar to the Op Art works of Julio le Parc and works by Yves Tinguely being shown at Rene Denis Gallery in Paris In 1968, the magazine Galeria de Arte Moderna (GAM), published an article entitled Ivan Freitas and the Cosmic Space. In the Brazilian Dictionary of Plastic Artists , the Italian art critic Giuseppe Marchiori refers to Ivan Frentas as someone who "controls and dominates each part of the painting with a desire to deepen the image that surprises and enchants". Still according to the critic, Ivan is someone who preserves the mystery in the harmony between lines and the colorful atmosphere, where he creates pauses and rhythms for the reading of his "secret structures". Arte Neo Concreta artists Lygia Clark, Helio Oiticica and Lygia Pape, were all contemporaries The poet Ferreira Gullar writes: "Freitas does not turn to the subjective world, does not inquire into the arcana of the unconscious; he inquires into the future and, in the solitude of his paintings, promises us a serene and orderly world. And, if in his landscapes man does not appear, it is not that this order excludes him - it is that he has not yet reached it. " Selec Solo Exhibitions 1957 - João Pessoa Public Library; João Pessoa, PB. 1960 - Ivan Freitas: Painting Exhibitions , at the Penguin Gallery; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. 1961 - MAM-BA , Salvador , BA. 1962 - Rubbers Gallery; Buenos Aires , Argentina . 1962 - La Cabana Galeria; Trieste , Italy . 1962 - Brazil-United States Cultural Institute; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. 1962 - Brazil-Uruguay Institute; Montevideo , Uruguay . 1962 - Barcinski Gallery; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. 1963 - Galleria Del Canale, Naples , Italy. 1963 - Ivan Freitas: Paris 1963, at the Barcinski Gallery ; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. 1964 - Barcinski Gallery; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. 1966 - Relief Gallery; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. 1968 - Relief Gallery; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. 1969 - Pan American Union; Washington , United States. 1971 - Miramar Gallery; New York, United States. 1971 - Bloomingdale's Art Gallery; New York, United States. 1973 - Individual, at Galeria Bonino; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. 1973 - Galeria Collection; São Paulo , SP. 1974 - Ivan Freitas: Paintings / Objectives , at the Rio de Janeiro Art Exchange; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. 1975 - Arte Global Gallery; São Paulo-SP. 1976 - Ivan Freitas: Paintings / Space / Movement , at Galeria Ipanema; Sao Paulo-SP. 1977 - Paulo Prado Gallery; Sao Paulo-SP. 1978 - Paraíba State Cultural Foundation; João Pessoa, PB. 1979 - Gallery B. 75 Concorde; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. 1980 - Individual, at Galeria do Sesi; Sao Paulo-SP. 1980 - Paulo Prado Gallery; Sao Paulo-SP. 1986 - Ivan Freitas: The Reinvented Landscape , at Galeria Arte Aplicada; Sao Paulo-SP. 1987 - Applied Art Gallery; Sao Paulo-SP. 1989 - Evasion Arte Gallery; Sao Paulo-SP. 1994 - GB Arte Gallery; Rio de Janeiro - RJ. Sahara Sofa by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance: Leather & Wood, Post-Modern

Sahara Sofa by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance: Leather & Wood, Post-Modern

By Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance

Located in Geneve, CH

Sahara sofa by Noé Duchaufour Lawrance Sofa 3 seats + 2 tops Dimensions: W 416.3 x D 158.5 x H 83.8 cm Materials: Leather or fabric, black aluminium powder, coat structure, wood base, leather back panels. The design of the ‘Sahara’ sofa evokes the gorgeous interior of a desert nomad’s tent opening onto the starry sky. Leather, fabric and wood blend together into a warm combination. The seat and back cushions look like independent elements casually arranged on the supporting platform. The appealing base extends to one end to create a convenient side table available in a range of sophisticated finishes, from glossy marble to cool terrazzo. The platform and seat are joined only by a vertical element with rounded edges inspired by the curved lines of the Sahara nomad’s traditional khaima tents. Sahara is available in several configurations — three-seater, four-seater, daybed, etc. Designed for hospitality. Biography: Not wishing to simply produce or be rational about a product, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance prefers that each of his projects has its own unique scenario, nourished without distinction between uses, forms, materials or aesthetics. For him, curves and straight lines, sensuality and strictness interact in confrontations that are conducive to create meaning and awaken our senses. Through his desire to breath life into both the objects and spaces he designs, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance views each project as an organic form that will grow over time with its user, almost like a natural element that can Challenge human order or disorder. Originally, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance was a sculptor, preoccupied with each work he created by a story and intimate link with nature that he felt the need to retranscribe by using his hands. But soon the IDEA of stirring emotions in others by creating useful forms became an evident path for someone who loves the beautiful as much as the functional and harmony as much as social responsibility. So he turned to design. Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance often compares his approach to tsubo niwa, the tiny garden at the centre of a traditional Japanese house. Like an organic pulse in a profession dedicated to meeting the demands of an industry, a market or a specific client, he is as ready to design objects with inspired lines for manufacturers (Bernhardt Design, Ceccotti Collezioni, Cinna, Ligne Roset, La Chance, Petite Friture, Tacchini, Zanotta.) as he is to imagine harmonious living areas (Senderens, Air France Lounges, Ciel de Paris, Meurice Oenotheque, Transumance Chalet, #Cloud Paris lounge) or even to define a product image or showcase for a famous brand (Paco Rabanne, YSL Beauty, Perrier-Jouët,). Thus in 2015 Montblanc associated its name with Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, entrusting him with the architectural plans of the company’s 500 boutiques worldwide. His unique approach has led him to conceive exceptional objects that have been presented in the Pierre bergere gallery in Brussels and the BSL gallery in Paris. He has participated in prestigious events like the AD Interiors exhibition at Paris’ Musée des Arts Decoratifs in 2013 and more recently, the AD collections exhibition, also in Paris. His creative meanderings have led him to initiate a collaboration with the Neal Feay workshop in the United States and also to work with two royal factories in France: Mobilier National (National Furniture) and the Manufacture de Sevres (ceramics). The latter two endeavors combine his contemporary vision of design with the finely-honed skills of master craftsmen that were used in the 18th century. His approach has been acclaimed by the French and international press and he has received many prizes including NeoCon Silver 2016 for his Modern Family collection for Bernhardt Design, the 2015 Via Label, the 2014 Janus business prize for the Air France Salons, the GQ Best Designer prize in 2012, the prestigious Red Dot prize for Best Product in 2011 and both the Elle Decoration International Design Prize and Wallpaper Design Award in 2009.
