1940s Native American Quillwork Regalia Vest

Located in Scottsdale, AZ

Rare 1940's Quillwork Vest is in beautiful natural buckskin, vest features stunning quillwork embroidery! The motif of florals and birds are stunning, hand dyed in the perfect pantone palette for spring. The vest's inside is quilted cotton and the vest edging is red and black double wide folded bias. A true collectors piece. Excellent condition. Buckskin Vest is Ojibwa Style, tribe is unknown. Measurements: Fronts each side: 23 inches long by 12 inches wide. Back is 32 inches wide by 22.5 inches long. Notes: Today, Native American quillwork embroidery is nearly a lost art. Porcupine quills are difficult to work with, and quilled leather is more difficult to take care of than beaded leather. Most quillers switched to beadwork when seed beads became widely available, since beading uses many of the same skills as quilling but is less grueling. However, some native artists are working to maintain traditional quill art...
