How does a table lamp work?
1 Answer

How a table lamp works begins with its cord, which gets plugged into an electrical outlet that provides a source of energy. Halogen and incandescent bulbs contain filaments. The filament in a bulb is a conductor of electricity. It’s attached to contacts made of metal that are connected to a power supply. This allows for electricity to flow through it. When the electrical current cycles through the filament, this component gets quite hot and emits light. Find a large collection of vintage table lamps on 1stDibs.

Pair of Gilt Bronze Ginkgo Leaf Table Lamps with Shades
Located in Long Island City, NY
An elegant and highly decorative pair of gilt bronze table lamps modeled as gracefully intertwining ginkgo branches with beautifully sculpted fan-shaped leaves.
Each lamp is masterfully cast with naturalistic detail, the sweeping bronze stem supporting multiple textured ginkgo leaves rising from a mirrored square platform mounted on a giltwood base. The organic movement of the design creates a striking sculptural silhouette from every angle, making these lamps equally suited for traditional, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, or contemporary interiors.
The lamps retain their custom cream-colored shades, which complement the warm gilt bronze finish while providing a refined and sophisticated presentation.
A timeless pair of decorative lamps that beautifully combines nature-inspired design with exceptional craftsmanship.
Condition:
Very good vintage condition.
The gilt bronze retains an attractive warm patina with minor wear consistent with age and use. Shades show light age-related wear and can easily be replaced if a different color or style is desired. Lamps are fully wired and ready for use.
