What is the difference between a lithograph and an original?

The difference between a lithograph and an original is that one is used to produce the other. An original is the term for the stone upon which an artist paints an image using an oil-based substance, such as a greasy crayon or tusche, a type of oily wash. The lithograph is the print that an artist makes with an original. To create a lithograph, oil-based ink is applied to the wet stone, adhering only to the oily image. Different lithograph printed verso, as issued. Unsigned. Accompanied with a copy of the inside cover page and colophone with publishing information.
Around 1959, Editions Cercle d’Art published Carnet de la Californie, a facsimile of a sketchbook that Picasso worked on at his house in Cannes, La Californie. Printed at Mourlot Studios in Paris, this edition was prepared for the American market by publisher Harry N. Abrams, New York (1960).
