What is the rule for lampshades?

1 Answer
What is the rule for lampshades?
There are actually two main rules for lampshades. First, the diameter of the shade's top should be as wide as the base of your lamp but no larger than twice its width. For example, if your lamp base measures 8 inches in diameter, its shade should measure 8 to 16 inches across the top. The second rule is that the height of the shade should be two-thirds of the overall height of the base or smaller. If your lamp is 18 inches tall, you would want a shade that is no more than 12 inches high. On 1stDibs, shop a diverse assortment of lamps.
