Who are the Martin Brothers?
The Martin Brothers are a team of brothers known for producing stoneware during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Wallace, Walter, Charles and Edwin Martin established their factory in London in 1873. Their company, Martin Brothers, became famous for their whimsical bird figurines, nicknamed Wally Birds. A rare Martin Brothers miniature stoneware art pottery vase decorated in brown glazes by Walter Martin and believed to date from the 19th century. This lovely little vase is of rounded bulbous with a narrow rounded foot and a funnel shaped neck with rounded opening. The vase is decorated in brown glazes with a slight textured finish in places with an exposed underlying white glaze revealed around the foot and top rim. The vase is marked partially indistinctly with a W M mark to the base. The vase is offered in good condition. Provenance: acquired from an extensive private Martin Brothers pottery collection.
