"Windows of Opportunity", Vibrant Modern Encaustic Abstract, White and Orange

Located in Carmel, CA

Rinat Goren (Israeli, American, born 1964) "Windows of Opportunity" 2021 Encaustic paint on cradled wood panel The artist signed the bottom right corner of the painting. “Windows of Opportunity” unfolds as a quiet grid of softly rendered rectangles and window-like forms, layered in warm tones of apricot, saffron, pale peach, and muted white. Subtle line work and translucent wax layers give the surface a luminous, atmospheric depth. Goren’s encaustic technique allows each shape to feel both deliberate and ephemeral, evoking architectural plans, urban facades, and moments of pause within a structured environment. The repeated square and rectangular motifs suggest windows, thresholds, and openings, visual metaphors for possibility, transition, and choice. Fine incised lines and faint architectural markings add rhythm while preserving a sense of openness and calm. The painting balances abstraction with suggestion, offering viewers space for contemplation rather than narrative certainty. “Windows of Opportunity” is emblematic of Goren’s practice, which explores systems, repetition, and human-scaled geometry through a restrained, tactile language. About the Artist: Rinat Goren is an Israeli-American artist based in California whose contemporary encaustic works explore the relationship between thought, structure, and emotion. Born in Israel and residing most of her life in the U.S., Goren has long been drawn to both observation and creation, translating the complexity of the human mind into layered visual compositions. Her encaustic paintings—formed by applying molten beeswax mixed with pigment—evoke a tactile, sensory experience that reflects her fascination with systems, decision-making, and the creative act itself. She works with geometry, color, and abstraction to celebrate our innate capacity to reflect, choose, and act with intention. Goren’s process is rooted in one of the world’s oldest painting...

Chasmanthium Insignias: Abstract Encaustic Painting with Green, Earth Tones

By Allyson Levy

Located in Hudson, NY

Abstract encaustic painting with a green, earth toned palette. Made with natural plant material (Northern Sea Oats) "Chasmanthium Insignias I" made by Allyson Levy in 2021 encaustic and plant material on wood panel, 24 x 24 x 1 inches Lightweight, hangs with one d-ring, Signed, verso This modern abstract encaustic painting by Allyson Levy is made with Northern Sea Oats and green encaustic, sealed with a layer of neutral wax on a wood panel. The artist begins by finding the organic material in her 4-acre garden in upstate New York which she then arranges and embeds with encaustic on a wooden panel. The brown, earth toned sea oats are laid in a linear pattern on a wood panel with a surface of green encaustic and then sealed with clear wax. The encaustic wraps around to the sides of the panel, revealing some bumps and downward drips, accumulated during the natural drying process. The piece is lightweight and hangs on one d-ring. About the artist and her work: After moving to the rural town of Stone Ridge, NY seventeen years ago and starting a 4-acre botanical garden with her husband, mixed media artist, Allyson Levy, has found endless inspiration in the plant kingdom that surrounds her. The garden itself, named “Hortus Conclusus”, consisting of thousands of rare plants and edibles, remains at the epicenter of Levy’s art making. A fascination with earth’s bounty is expressed with her works in encaustic. Assorted organic material such as leaves, seeds, branches, insect wings...

"Almost There", Vibrant Contemporary Encaustic Abstract, Yellow and Orange

Located in Carmel, CA

Rinat Goren (Israeli, American, born 1964) "Almost There" 2021 Encaustic paint and paper on cradled wood panel The artist signed the bottom right corner of the painting. “Almost There” is a luminous abstract work created with encaustic and paper on a cradled wood panel. The composition is anchored by a radiant golden field layered with softened geometric forms, linear markings, and a flowing turquoise passage that guides the eye across the surface. Goren’s use of encaustic allows for rich translucency and depth, with molten wax binding pigment and paper into a tactile, atmospheric surface. Repeating rounded shapes and subtle linear rhythms suggest movement, mapping, and quiet progression, while the contrast between warm yellows and cool blues creates a sense of balance and anticipation. The title reflects this visual language, evoking transition, momentum, and the emotional space between arrival and journey. Blending abstraction with a meditative sense of structure, “Almost There” exemplifies Goren’s refined approach to encaustic painting, where color, texture, and process converge. The work is well-suited for collectors drawn to contemporary abstraction, material-driven practice, and pieces that offer both visual warmth and conceptual subtlety. About the Artist: Rinat Goren is an Israeli-American artist based in California whose contemporary encaustic works explore the relationship between thought, structure, and emotion. Little Blue (Abstract Geometric Mixed Media Encaustic Work on Wooden Panel)

By Donise English

Located in Hudson, NY

Little Blue, 2020 Encaustic & collage on thin edged board 12" X 12" This abstract geometric composition on wooden board features a playful geometric motif that is inspired by the artist's interest in architecture and blueprint drawings. The geometric forms are made in a more painterly, gestural manner rather than with a hard edge. Paint is not heavily built up upon the surface but it certainly exhibits a tactile quality which is characteristic of the artist's aesthetic. English's work celebrates the quirky, unexpected qualities of shapes and colors. About the artist: Donise English is a Poughkeepsie-based artist who received her MFA from Bard College and is currently a Professor of Studio Art at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Artist Statement: I am interested in drawing and collaging multiple layers of information that refer abstractly to maps, architectural drawings and blueprints or patterns and structures found in such things as roller coasters, power lines and fences. I use gouache and collaged paper in a series of layers that are a visual and ideological response to the previous layer to define my pictorial space. For each piece I create a set of rules to follow about the use of a limited palette, a grid format, opacity of paper and whether a piece may include curving lines or maintain a rectilinear structure. Resume: EDUCATION Master of Fine Arts in Painting Bard College 1986 Bachelor of Science in Art History State University College at New Paltz 1977 Additional Study: New York Studio School (Drawing Marathons) Columbia University, School of Architecture Women’s Studio Workshop TEACHING Professor of Studio Art, Department of Art and Art History, Marist College, Poughkeepsie,NY Coordinator, Interior Design Program, Florence, Italy campus 1992-present AWARDS Finalist, “Saatchi Showdown” 2010 Invitational Award for Outstanding Contemporary Talent, University of Bridgeport, CT 2000 Purchase Prize, “11th National Juried Exhibition” College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Baltimore 1999 First Prize, “Women in the Visual Arts ‘95” Erector Square Gallery, New Haven, CT 1995 Joseph A. The Way it Was by Susan Thornbury, Contemporary Artwork on Panel

The Way it Was by Susan Thornbury, Contemporary Artwork on Panel

Located in Atlanta, GA

'The Way It Was' by Susan Thornbury is an abstract composition full of texture and movement rendered in mixed media on panel. Measuring 36 x 36 in, this piece showcases the artist's distinctive style and command of composition. A perfect addition for collectors seeking contemporary abstracts with presence and personality. Susan Thornbury creates richly layered mixed media paintings that feel both modern and timeless. Working on wood panels with plaster and wax, she builds surfaces that are as much about what’s revealed as what’s concealed. Her compositions often begin with structure—repeating motifs inspired by antique textiles, vintage wallpaper, or family heirlooms—then soften and evolve through an intuitive, hands-on process of scraping, sanding, and waxing. The result is work that feels quiet but deeply tactile, inviting viewers to linger and discover the nuance within every petal, line, and edge. A background in graphic design shapes Susan’s sensibility: there’s a balance between pattern and spontaneity, symmetry and imperfection. Whether working in soft sage greens, misty grays, or whispery whites, she leans into the beauty of restraint, letting texture and subtle shifts in color carry the emotion. Susan lives and works in Atlanta, where she shares a home with her husband, two daughters, and their spunky rat terrier...
