Celebrating our common colors as well as our diversity is Linden Godlove’s latest series of encaustics, “The Muses.” The paintings are modeled after icons, with a direct gaze that hearkens a response to their spirit, to find company in their character. This particular piece is the "Muse of Passion" and is part of a set of nine that are sold separately from one another.
Encaustic painting is an ancient art form (some early icons are encaustic), where hot wax is mixed with pigment and resin, and painted while liquid. Throughout the process, everything is repeatedly fused with fire and sometimes things melt in an unintended direction. Linden’s process involves repeatedly carving parts out and filling them back in, so the works are splayed out in a loose application of hot liquid, then cut back, then washed over with brushes of hot wax again. It’s a combination of chaos and control.
The series draws inspiration from women all over the globe, as originally photographed by Mihaela Noroc for her book The Atlas of Beauty. A portion of the proceeds from these sales will go towards her project.
While internationally influenced, the pieces were painted, scraped, and carved at the artist’s hundred year old Detroit...

She also spent several years in Texas, where she attended the University of Houston, studied commercial art and became the Art Director at several advertising agencies. Artist Statement: In this piece, I wanted to create an environment that on the surface looks lovely: the colors are pretty, and the shapes feel inviting. This piece should give the viewer a sense of peace or hope. But I was also looking to explore an unarticulated sense of fear. The children head to a horizon of nothing. There are no trees, buildings, or any recognizable object. In fact, they are heading to unknown. The unknown can be our greatest fear. The fear of not knowing what is ahead of us can be debilitating, this type of fear can pull you back, keep you where you are. This type of fear can say to you: “It’s a scary world out there, better just stay where you are”. Instead of listening to the fear, these children represent the hope that it takes to continue to move forward relentlessly and resiliently. They are the part of us that represents the courage it takes to do thing in spite of pain, suffering, shame, or guilt. It takes courage...

Dina Recanati (born Diane Hettena; 1928 – 2021) was an Israeli artist, sculptor and painter.
Diane Hettena was born in Cairo, Egypt. In 1946, she married Raphael Recanati in Tel Aviv, Mandatory Palestine.
Went to London to study History and Art 1946-1948.
Moved to New York 1948. Raised two sons, Oudi and Michael.
Attended Art Student League 1959-1962. Studied with Jose de Creft and John Hovannes.
Beginning in 1964, she was active on the board of the America-israel Cultural Foundation. In the 1970s, she was a member of the board of the Israel Museum and in the 1980s Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, Jerusalem. At the same time as she was working as an artist, she was also collecting artwork. She lives and works in Herzliya and New York.
Most of Recanati's work is in the medium of sculpture. Her works, which contain images of books or parchment, have been influenced by American abstract expressionism in their use of swaths of color. In the 1980s and 1990s, she worked widely in sculptures in the public domain. Dina Recanati was a proponent of Israeli art and supported many Israeli artists. In the 1950s and 1960s, she showcased the work of beginning artists at the 5th Avenue branch of Israel Discount Bank in New York City, while growing Discount Bank’s art collection.
She has gone on to exhibit worldwide with permanent works in the Israel Museum, Tel Aviv Museum, Ben Gurion Airport, The Jewish Museum (New York) among others. She is the recipient of the AICF AVIV Award and The Council for a Beautiful Israel Yakir Award.
She was represented by Flomenhaft Gallery in New York City (was included in the Feminist Art Project along with Miriam Schapiro) and Gordon Gallery in Tel Aviv.
Recanati died in Herzliya Pituah at the ate of 93.

The pieces in this series are printed with pigmented encaustic on Japanese paper; they are mounted on panel and coated with medium or stand alone like this work on Okawara paper.
These artworks were a reaction to the more serialized and geometric work Adams was doing, a need to break from that and work in a freeing and more physical way.
Tracey Adams is an American abstract painter and printmaker. Her artworks reflect a strong interest in musical patterns, rhythms, lyrical compositional elements and what she calls a sense of performance. She lives and works in Carmel, California.
