Untitled (Walking Dog), Collage in Original Tin Frame by Rodolfo Morales
Untitled (Walking Dog), Collage in Original Tin Frame by Rodolfo Morales

Untitled (Walking Dog), Collage in Original Tin Frame by Rodolfo Morales

Located in Palm Springs, CA

A charming and characteristic mixed-media collage by Mexican master Rodolfo Morales (1925–2001), featuring a stylized black dog set against a shimmering silver ground and surrounded by hearts, flowers, and textile elements. Morales is celebrated for his dreamlike blend of folk tradition, magical realism, and Oaxacan village imagery, and dogs appear frequently among his recurring motifs. This work is constructed from layered papers, ribbon, foil, and applied decorative materials, all housed in its original hand-tooled tin frame. The frame is stamped “Tirso Cuevas”, identifying one of the well-known Oaxacan tinsmiths who collaborated with Morales during the 1980s–1990s on his collage-mounted works. Signed “Rodolfo Morales” at lower right. Medium: Mixed-media collage (paper, foil, ribbon, applied materials) Support: Artist’s original tin frame, stamped Tirso Cuevas Period: c. 1980s–1990s Signature: Signed lower right Condition: Very good, with expected minor surface irregularities inherent to Morales’ collage technique and original tinwork Provenance: Private collection, USA A delightful example of Morales’s playful, folk-surrealist sensibility — rich in color, texture, and the poetic spirit of Oaxaca. About the Artist Rodolfo Morales is widely regarded as a pillar of modern Mexican art, alongside Rufino Tamayo and Francisco Toledo. Born in Ocotlán de Morelos, Oaxaca, he developed a unique language of floating figures, vivid color, and architectural reminiscence grounded in Mexican folklore. His collages, in particular, display an extraordinary fusion of surrealist sensibility and vernacular craft traditions, incorporating lace, tin, antique paper, textiles, and devotional materials. Morales’ works are held in major private and public collections worldwide and continue to command strong interest among collectors of Latin American Modernism, Magical Realism, and Oaxacan art.

Located in Surfside, FL

Fereydoun (Fred) Rahimi Assa (Iranian, b. 1936) "Lonely Soul in Desert" Oil and mixed media on canvas, Hand signed lower left Framed : 40-1/2"h x 30-1/2"w Sight: 40"h x 30"w Made with metallic foil or paint, the patchwork-like piece bears geometric designs and symbols. Born in Baku, Azerbaijan, Fereydoun Rahimi Assa (b. 1936) moved to Tehran at the age of three. He attended the College of Decorative Arts, Tehran in the same year group as well-known formidable masters, Hossein Zenderoudi and Massoud Arabshahi. After being awarded a travelling scholarship in 1964, Rahimi-Assa went to Israel for three months of study. Although Rahimi-Assa saw success through the several exhibitions he held in Israel, unable to secure a long-term visa and not keen to return to Iran, he found himself in the US – in no small part, thanks to the help of Eric Azari in obtaining a long-term residency visa. Fred Rahimi-Assa went first to New York and later settled in New Jersey. While in New York, he worked in some capacity at Columbia University’s Painting department where he also exhibited several times, including a solo show in 1968. In the same year, Rahimi-Assa participated in a group exhibition of Modern Persian painting, sponsored by the Centre for Iranian Studies at Columbia University – founded that year by Professor Ehsan Yarshater (Hagop Kevorkian Professor of Iranian Studies, Columbia University). After moving out of the City, to New Jersey in the 1970s, Rahimi Asa continued to exhibit with local institutes and organized art seminars in the homes of various artists. His work was included in the Middle East auction held by Sotheby's. It includes pioneering artists such as Egyptian Mahmoud Mokhtar, Moroccan modernism, Mohamed Melehi...

George Cecil Carter 1950s “Warlock” Abstract Expressionist Oil & Metal Foil Pain

George Cecil Carter 1950s “Warlock” Abstract Expressionist Oil & Metal Foil Pain

Located in Denver, CO

“Warlock” is a striking 1950s abstract oil and metal foil on board painting by Colorado modernist George Cecil Carter. This powerful work exemplifies mid-20th-century Abstract Expressionism, with a dynamic palette of dark blue, gray, white, orange, and purple. The combination of textured metal foil and oil paint creates a compelling interplay of light, shadow, and surface, adding depth and a tactile dimension to the composition. Bold forms and rhythmic brushwork convey energy, emotion, and modernist sophistication. Signed by the artist in the lower right and titled and dated on the verso, the painting is presented in its original George Nix frame, with overall dimensions of 30 ¾ x 36 ¾ inches and an image size of 23 ¼ x 29 ¼ inches. Its scale and striking color make it an exceptional focal point for collectors of Abstract Expressionism, mid-century modern art, and Colorado regional modernism. Born in Woodward, Oklahoma, Carter had no formal art training but developed a distinctive style shaped by a diverse life that included work as a coal and gold miner and as a machinist at Schneebeck’s Industries in Colorado Springs. Mentored by Charles Bunnell at the Broadmoor Academy, Carter emerged as a leading figure in Colorado’s Abstract Expressionist movement, exhibiting nationally alongside contemporaries such as Al Wynne, Mary Chenoweth...

untitled (Double Portrait) — Mixed Media Collage by Rodolfo Morales

Located in Palm Springs, CA

A vibrant and emotionally charged mixed-media collage by Rodolfo Morales (1925–2001), one of the central figures of the Oaxacan school alongside Rufino Tamayo and Francisco Toledo. Morales is celebrated for his dreamlike vision of village life, the female presence, and the thin, poetic line between the real and the magical. This unusual double portrait features two frontal figures—rendered in Morales’ signature palette of saturated reds, golds, and earth tones—set against a radiant background of foils, hearts, and patterned papers. The faces, both direct and expressive, seem to mirror each other while remaining psychologically distinct. Morales constructs them from layered paper, painted elements, and bits of lace and metallic foil, each detail contributing to an atmosphere that is both intimate and theatrical. The composition is framed by its original hand-punched tin (hojalata) frame, a hallmark of Morales’ mixed-media works. These frames were often designed in collaboration with local Oaxacan art...
