Animal Head, Wall Sculpture: 'Penicillium Chrysogeum Pantherinae'
Located in New York, NY
Hand-dyed ghost gear netting*, muslin, adhesive, foam, paint, pins, reclaimed copper flashing Recovered Ghost Gear Data: Retrieval Coordinates: 42° 10ʹN 69°52ʹW Retrieval Vessel: F/V Donna Marie (Groundfish Trawler/Scallop Dragger out of Provincetown) Water Depth: approx. 100 fathoms/183 meters/600 feet Source: pre-Magnuson-Stevens Act* foreign, most likely Russian, fishing net 'I am a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on ecofeminism using fiber and mixed media constructions. My materials include hand-dyed commercially fished line and ghost gear, recycled and antique textiles, fabric printed with cyanotype emulsions and found objects. I change the existing surface of recognizable animals by creating a veneer of unexpected color and imagery. This forces the viewer to consider the shape more carefully by visually exploring its new topography. The creation process can be likened to painting with fiber (that has been tinted with hand-mixed dyes) on a three-dimensional canvas. Intense work is spent creating the eyes and ears to convey the emotion of each animal. I look to the work of Joan Mitchell and The Quilters of Gee’s Bend...

Open Carry
Located in New Orleans, LA
KAT FLYN is a self-taught assemblage artist working presently out of San Diego. She began her career as a costume designer in Southern California. Over the years she amassed a trove of artifacts and collectables which she began using to create assemblage art in the 1990’s. In 2000 she sold her business and moved to Cuyamaca, a remote community in the mountains outside of San Diego to devote herself exclusively to her artwork. In 2003 her work was interrupted when the Cedar Fire swept through San Diego county and destroyed the forest, her home & studio along with almost all of her collections and works of art. Following the fire she relocated to San Francisco, where she spent a decade concentrating on her art in her studio in SOMA and exhibiting at galleries in the Bay Area. In 2015 she returned to San Diego and now works out of her studio in La Jolla, exhibiting there and in Los Angeles. Kat Flyn refers to herself as an Assemblage Sculptor and her works as Political Art or Protest Art. She separates herself from other assemblage artists in that she only employs “saved” as opposed to “found” objects in her work; and her pieces always have a political or cultural narrative to them rather than being surreal or abstract. She also constructs or refashions many of the pieces which she uses in her art, for example she turns a soft drink box...

"Take Your Pleasure Seriously" - Mixed Media Textured Collage Painting
Located in West Hollywood, CA
This 36 inch square original mixed media painting on canvas is wired and ready to hang. Layers of patterned collage elements and acrylic paint bring this artwork to life. The layering and unique texture of colorful clippings and geometrical designs create a window looking into a luxurious escape perfect for any home or office. The sides of the artwork are painted and it does not require framing. It is signed and titled by the artist on the back of the artwork. Molina's work is influenced by her prior career as an advertising art director–but now her goal now is to sell perspective rather than product. In this series, Cabell reclaims classic femininity as multi-faceted, giving voice and texture to lost imagery. Her art pushes for colorful expansion of a “woman’s place” while it explores the complex dynamic of a woman’s emotions, celebrating the bygone glamour of mid-century fashion and deconstructing its patriarchal underpinnings. Cabell’s painting/collages read as meditations on the female experience and the pursuit for sovereignty in a historically male dominated culture. She studied graphic design, and fine art at San Diego State University and Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. Her work has been featured in NYT The Cut, CNN Style, and Vogue, as well as shown in multinational galleries and can be found in private collections around the world. Manifestation II
Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: This kinetic artwork is intended as a gently rotating, dimensional mandala. It has a baroque-upcycled aesthetic that playfully transcends the utility of the can-tab. Sparkling moiré patterns emerge as the artwork rotates slowly. One can experience the artwork as a sparkling, crystalline mystery from a distance, then as a familiar but incalculable marvel up close. Fun fact: it is powered by a disco ball motor Keywords: kinetic art, sensory art, suspended art, upcycled, sparkling , metal Details: A kinetic, sensory sculpture made from post-consumer can-tabs, safety pins, steel armature and ceiling mounted motor. 84"l x 44"w x 44"d x 40 lbs. rotates at 1 to 1-1/2 rpm Artist Biography: Since 2002, award winning artist Virginia Fleck...

Untitled (flooring)
Located in Palm Desert, CA
A mixed media piece by Theaster Gates. "Untitled (flooring)" a contemporary found object piece, white cement, debris, flooring by American artist Theaster Gates. The artwork is unsigned. Theaster Gates' practice includes sculpture, installation, performance and urban interventions that aim to bridge the gap between art and life. Gates works as an artist, curator, urbanist and facilitator and his projects attempt to instigate the creation of cultural communities by acting as catalysts for social engagement that leads to political and spatial change. Gates has described his working method as “critique through collaboration” – often with architects, researchers and performers – to create works that stretch the idea of what we usually understand visual-based practices to be. For his exhibition at Milwaukee Art Museum exhibition in 2010, for example, Gates invited a 250 strong gospel choir into the galleries to sing songs adapted from the inscriptions on pots by the famous 19th century slave and potter 'Dave Drake'. For the 2010 Whitney Biennial, Gates transformed the Whitney’s Sculpture Court with a spare, architectural installation that functioned as a communal gathering space for performances, social engagement, and contemplation. For the duration of the exhibition Gates collaborated with various creative practitioners on a series of 'monastic residencies', holding live events such as the session by Gates' musical ensemble, the Black Monks of Mississippi. In another recent exhibition at Seattle Art Museum, Gates transformed the gallery into an audio archive entitled 'The Listening Room', incorporating a hand-built DJ...

I frequently make both historical and everyday symbols my own to describe and question the environment that surrounds me through work with a marked social cut. I make art with any resource and/or material within my reach while taking advantage of the energy of recoverable objects and mixing them with traditional and contemporary supports and technologies. ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ Rafael Pérez...
