Original 1946 poster by Paul Colin - “Ils Meurent Pour Vous – Victoire” - WWII

By Paul Colin

Located in PARIS, FR

This powerful original 1946 poster by renowned French graphic artist Paul Colin (1892–1985) was created in the aftermath of World War II for the Organisme National d’Aide aux Combattants under the high presidency of General de Gaulle. Titled “Ils Meurent Pour Vous – Victoire” (They Die For You – Victory), the poster is both a commemoration and a call to solidarity. Rendered in Colin’s bold chiaroscuro style, it depicts a kneeling French soldier silhouetted against the dawn sky, his weapon poised towards the horizon. Behind him lie the faint outlines of fallen comrades, underscoring the poster’s solemn message of sacrifice. The simple yet emotionally charged typography conveys urgent patriotism and post-war gratitude. Paul Colin, one of the greatest poster designers of the Art Deco era, was celebrated for his theatre, cabaret, and political works. Here, his graphic precision and emotional clarity serve a national cause, urging public support for veterans who fought and died for liberation. A deeply evocative historical artefact, this poster resonates today as a reminder of France’s liberation struggle and the human cost of victory. It is ideal for collectors of WWII memorabilia...

Original poster from 1920 For peace, subscribe to the industrial bank of China

Located in PARIS, FR

Beautiful historical poster from 1920. Borrowing for peace, subscribe to the industrial bank of China. Several national loans were issued during the economic history of modern France. These national loans take place in times of war when the public finances are in trouble, as well as in times of peace when it is necessary to launch certain projects and the public debt remains high. If the State lacked cash and taxes were no longer sufficient, a loan sometimes became necessary. In order to encourage the population to subscribe massively to these loans, governments used propaganda, notably through posters that titillated the nationalist fibre. War - Economy - China Peace loan...

Original poster of the Chemins de fer de l'Est promoting travel in Switzerland

Located in PARIS, FR

Original old poster of the Chemins de fer de l'Est promoting travel in Switzerland, illustrated by E. Bourgeois. Eugène Victor Bourgeois (1855 - 1909) was a French painter, illustrator and poster artist. Self-taught painter, Eugene Victor Bourgeois began at the Salon of 1874. He won a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 and at the one of 1900. The Compagnie des chemins de fer de l'Est was a limited company created in 1845 under the name Compagnie du chemin de fer de Paris à Strasbourg. Circa 1950 original poster by Lucien Boucher for Air France - Planispheres

By Lucien Boucher

Located in PARIS, FR

The circa 1950 original poster by Lucien Boucher, Air France Réseau Aérien Mondial, is a notable example of mid-20th-century commercial art designed to promote the global air routes of Air France. Lucien Boucher, a renowned French illustrator and poster artist, became closely associated with Air France due to his series of beautifully crafted world map posters, often referred to as "planispheres." These maps were produced between the 1930s and 1960s, highlighting the growing reach of Air France as international air travel expanded after World War II. Boucher's work is known for its combination of cartographic precision and artistic creativity. His Air France posters were not just functional tools for navigation but were also designed to evoke a sense of adventure and the allure of global travel. They capture the optimism of an era when air travel was becoming more accessible and increasingly viewed as the future of international transportation. In this particular poster, Boucher uses artistic elements like vibrant colors, symbolic depictions of different regions, and various modes of transportation to showcase Air France’s extensive global routes. The poster's style reflects the influence of both Art Deco and traditional mapmaking, blending modernity with classical touches. The planes are seen flying across the map, connecting continents, while small details like ships, animals, and historical figures embellish the poster, each representing the diverse cultures and histories of the regions Air France serviced. These posters were often printed by French lithography studio Perceval, known for its high-quality production, further enhancing the visual appeal of Boucher’s work. The Réseau Aérien Mondial map posters are not just travel advertisements but also collectible pieces of art, highly valued by collectors of vintage aviation...

Against The Tide in Style of Edgar Alwin Payne - Oil on Linen

Located in Soquel, CA

Against The Tide - Oil On Linen Oil painting of the California coastline at sunset in the style of Edgar Alwin Payne (American, 1883-1947). Deep grey clouds pose in the top corners with hues of pink light shining through. Choppy waves crash against deep red and brown rocks, as the whites of the wave hurl upward. The ocean shows tones of green, blue and yellow as the sunlight shines from above. Condition: professionally restored, previous reline onto Masonite with edge and corner wear. New UV resisting, non yellowing varnish applied. Unsigned. Unframed. Oil on linen on masonite. Image: 16"H x 30"W Edgar Alwin Payne was an American painter known for his landscapes, seascapes and western paintings. He was born in Washburn, Missouri on March 1, 1882, and began painting at the age of 14. He began his career by designing and painting scenery for the stage, and murals for homes and theaters. Primarily a self taught artist, he did though study briefly at the Art Institute in Chicago. Recognized as one of California's leading landscape artists, Payne earned the respect of his peers and art critics for his Impressionistic landscapes painted in the plein-air style. Possessing a reverence for nature, he especially loved the mountains. Frequently he took pack horses in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range to the upper lakes to sketch and paint, there he glorified the areas majestic peaks and cobalt blue lakes. Payne Lake was named in his memory. Drawn to Europe, Payne trekked to and painted the elevated heights of the Swiss Alps, the colorful fishing boats of Concarneau Harbor and Brittany, France and the picturesque sailing vessels of Chioggia, Venice, Italy. He spent time capturing on canvas Arizona's Canyon De Chelly and Navajo horsemen traversing the region's arid tablelands. He painted California...
