Helmut Gransow Landscape w/House & Barn "Springtime Reflections No. I"

Located in Detroit, MI

SALE ONE WEEK ONLY “Springtown Reflections No. I” depicts the moment of change in the weather moving from harsh winter to the first warming days of spring melting the snow. The title suggests a moment to pause in farm life before the coming spring planting and also suggests a time of mental reflection on life and work. The puddles of melting snow reflect the buildings in the scene. The muted colors and slightly off kilter structures cause the buildings to appear worn but sturdy, a soft idyllic scene of rural life. The Language of Flowers and Silent Things — horizontal

The Language of Flowers and Silent Things — horizontal

By Frédéric Choisel

Located in Burlingame, CA

The Language of Flowers and Silent Things — in four parts with luminous oil on linen. Each panel is 25 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches. Hanging the four paintings in a row with 1 inch between each canvas, the overall dimension is 25 1/2 x 81 inches. Drama and depth at play in this sophisticated painting in aubergine and plum on natural raw Belgian linen. Thin layers of oil paint, create a shimmering and provocative work that shimmers and changes with the light of day and differing seasons. French American Frédéric Choisel, is inspired by the cities and countrysides of France, New York, and California's Bay Area. Like Gerhard Richter, with a background in hyperrealism and shift into abstraction, Choisel is taking us — the viewers of his work — along with him on a visceral journey. Beautiful, rich, highest quality materials used throughout. Artist signed, titled and dated verso. Condition excellent. The four paintings can hang in a quad as pictured or four in a row...

Judy Rifka, Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting MIxed Media 3D Construction

By Judy Rifka

Located in Surfside, FL

Hand signed verso, mixed media on two sections of joined canvas Work is titled "Ego Wall with Mess," circa 1983. Provenance: Brooke Alexander Gallery, New York, New York. bearing their label verso. 24 x 30 x 3-3/4 inches (61.0 x 76.2 x 9.5 cm) Hand signed on the reverse: Judy Rifka Judy Rifka (born 1945) is an American woman artist active since the 1970s as a painter and video artist. She works heavily in New York City's Tribeca and Lower East Side and has associated with movements coming out of the area in the 1970s and 1980s such as Colab and the East Village, Manhattan art scene. A video artist, book artist and abstract painter, Rifka is a multi-faceted artist who has worked in a variety of media in addition to her painting and printmaking. She was born in 1945 in New York City and studied art at Hunter College, the New York Studio School and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. Rifka took part in the 1980 Times Square Show, (Organized by Collaborative Projects, Inc. in 1980 at what was once a massage parlor, with now-famous participants such as Jenny Holzer, Nan Goldin, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Kiki Smith, the roster of the exhibition reads like a who’s who of the art world), two Whitney Museum Biennials (1975, 1983), Documenta 7, Just Another Asshole (1981), curated by Carlo McCormick and received the cover of Art in America in 1984 for her series, "Architecture," which employed the three-dimensional stretchers that she adopted in exhibitions dating to 1982; in a 1985 review in the New York Times, Vivien Raynor noted Rifka's shift to large paintings of the female nude, which also employed the three-dimensional stretchers. In a 1985 episode of Miami Vice, Bianca Jagger played a character attacked in front of Rifka's three-dimensional nude still-life, "Bacchanaal", which was on display at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale. Rene Ricard wrote about Rifka in his influential December 1987 Art Forum article about the iconic identity of artists from Van Gogh to Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, The Radiant Child. The untitled acrylic painting on plywood, in the collection of the Honolulu Museum of Art, demonstrates the artist's use of plywood as a substrate for painting. Artist and writer Mark Bloch called her work "imaginative surfaces that support experimental laboratories for interferences in sensuous pigment." According to artist and curator Greg de la Haba, Judy Rifka's irregular polygons on plywood "are among the most important paintings of the decade". In 2013, Rifka's daily posts on Facebook garnered a large social media audience for her imaginative "selfies," erudite friendly comments, and widely attended solo and group exhibitions, Judy Rifka's pop art figuration is noted for its nervous line and frenetic pace. In the January 1998 issue of Art in America, Vincent Carducci echoed Masheck, “Rifka reworks the neo-classical and the pop, setting all sources in quotation for today’s art-world cognoscenti.” Rifka, along with artists like David Wojnarowicz, helped to take Pop sensibility into a milieu that incorporated politics and high art into Postmodernism; Robert Pincus-Witten stated in his 1988 essay, Corinthian Crackerjacks & Passing Go that "Rifka’s commitment to process and discovery, doctrine with Abstract Expressionist practice, is of paramount concern though there is nothing dogmatic or pious about Rifka’s use of method. Playful rapidity and delight in discovery is everywhere evident in her painting." In 2016, a large retrospective of Rifka's art was shown at the Jean-Paul Najar Foundation in Dubai. In 2017, Gregory de la Haba presented a Rifka retrospective at the Amstel Gallery...

1936 Original Poster Pyrenees I must fight until victory Frenchman be persuaded!

By Pierre Mail

Located in PARIS, FR

Pierre Mail, the French poster artist born in 1902, made a lasting impact with his 1936 poster, "Pyrénées, il faut que je lutte jusqu'à la victoire, Français sois en persuadé!" (Pyrenees, I must fight until victory, Frenchman, be persuaded!). This vintage artwork not only embodies determination but also showcases Mail's talent in delivering powerful messages through visuals. Mail's composition features a resolute French soldier against a mountainous backdrop, underlining the imperative to fight until victory. The bold typography emphasizes the message's urgency. This poster gains significance in its historical context, created during a period of political turmoil in France. It serves as a call to action, urging the French people to persevere. Pierre Mail's influence extended beyond posters, as he made notable contributions to magazines and journals, shaping the visual culture of his time. Original Poster John Heartfield’s Die Lehre des Wolfes political photomontage
Original Poster John Heartfield’s Die Lehre des Wolfes political photomontage

Original Poster John Heartfield’s Die Lehre des Wolfes political photomontage

Located in PARIS, FR

Original Poster Politics - Photography - Photomontage - Germany - Anti-Semitism John Heartfield’s Die Lehre des Wolfes (The Teaching of the Wolf) is a striking example of his mastery of political photomontage, a technique he pioneered to expose the dangers of fascism and authoritarianism. This powerful composition presents a grotesque anthropomorphic wolf, dressed in military regalia, addressing a group of farm animals. The image serves as a biting satirical critique, likely targeting the deceptive rhetoric of totalitarian leaders who manipulate the masses for their own gain. Heartfield, a German artist closely associated with the anti-fascist Dada movement and a fierce critic of the Nazi regime, frequently used visual irony to challenge propaganda. In this work, the wolf—traditionally a symbol of cunning and predation—is portrayed as a figure of authority, dictating to an audience of sheep, goats, chickens, and other livestock. The accompanying text reinforces the theme, suggesting that the idea of "animals" as a unified group is an illusion—each species exists only to be consumed by the wolf, mirroring the ways oppressive regimes divide and exploit society. Created in the context of the 1930s and 1940s, Heartfield’s work was a direct challenge to the growing influence of fascist ideology in Europe. His photomontages, published in leftist magazines and posters, were acts of visual resistance, exposing the hypocrisy and brutality of political leaders. Die Lehre des Wolfes remains a timeless warning against manipulation, dictatorship, and the dangers of blindly following authority. Today, this piece is celebrated not only as an artwork but also as a historical document of resistance, reminding viewers of the enduring power of visual satire in the fight for truth and justice. The "working session of the Reich professional group of higher education professors of the League of National Socialist German Lawyers", which met under the chairmanship of Professor Carl Schmitt...

1973 Soviet propaganda poster - Cold War - CCCP - USSR - Lenin

Located in PARIS, FR

The 1973 Soviet propaganda poster you’ve shared is a powerful visual tribute to the enduring legacy of the Bolshevik Revolution, a pivotal event in Russian history. The poster captures the revolutionary spirit that shaped the Soviet Union, emphasizing the leadership of Vladimir Lenin and the unity of the working class and peasantry under the Bolshevik banner. At the heart of the design is a commanding image of Lenin, depicted holding a document aloft—a symbol of the revolutionary decrees and the new socialist order he championed. Lenin's stern expression and strong posture convey determination and authority, reinforcing his role as the leader who guided the proletariat to victory. The background features a group of determined figures, representing the workers and soldiers who supported the Bolshevik cause. Their expressions are serious and resolute, reflecting the collective strength and solidarity that were central themes in Soviet propaganda. The use of red, a dominant color in the poster, symbolizes both the blood shed during the revolution and the hope of a communist future. The text on the poster, a quote from Lenin, reads: "The workers' and peasants' revolution, the necessity of which the Bolsheviks have always spoken of, has been accomplished." This declaration emphasizes the realization of the revolutionary goals long advocated by the Bolsheviks, affirming the legitimacy and success of the Soviet state. Created in 1973, this poster marks the 56th anniversary of the October Revolution. By this time, Soviet propaganda had evolved to reinforce the enduring relevance of the revolution's ideals amidst the ongoing Cold War. The poster serves as both a reminder of the Soviet Union’s revolutionary roots and a tool for rallying support for the government’s policies. The stark contrast between the red and green hues, along with the clear, bold typography, are characteristic of Soviet propaganda art...
