1971 Original poster Prix d'Amérique poster by Mathieu for the Loterie Nationale

By Georges Mathieu

Located in PARIS, FR

The 1971 Prix d'Amérique poster by Mathieu for the Loterie Nationale is a striking example of mid-20th-century French graphic design, capturing the essence of one of France's most prestigious horse racing events. The Prix d'Amérique, held annually at the Hippodrome de Vincennes, is the world's most famous trotting race, and the Loterie Nationale (National Lottery) played an essential role in promoting and supporting major national events such as this. Mathieu, the designer of this poster, was known for his ability to blend dynamic imagery with modernist design principles, often creating works that felt both contemporary and timeless. This poster encapsulates the excitement and grandeur of the Prix d'Amérique, utilizing bold colors and clean lines that were hallmarks of graphic design during that era. The poster was not only an advertisement for the event but also for the Loterie Nationale, which used such occasions to encourage public participation in the national lottery. The Loterie Nationale played a significant role in funding various public initiatives and events in France, with posters like this serving as both promotional tools and collectible pieces of art. Collectors and enthusiasts of vintage racing...

1923 original soviet film poster for "Four Lives" - Cinema

Located in PARIS, FR

The 1923 original film poster for "Four Lives" (Четыре Жизни) is a striking example of early Soviet graphic design used to promote cinema. This poster, produced by Kino Moskva, showcases the avant-garde artistic style that was prevalent in Soviet Union during the late 1920s. The film, directed by an unknown director, is likely a dramatic narrative exploring various aspects of life, symbolized through its title. The design of the poster is dominated by a powerful figure in the foreground, depicted with strong lines and geometric shapes, reflecting the constructivist influence. The use of bold, contrasting colors like red, black, and green adds to the visual impact, drawing the viewer's attention immediately. The figure's posture and attire suggest a story of resilience and struggle, themes common in Soviet cinema of that era. In the background, the stylized depiction of another face and abstract forms contribute to the dynamic composition, hinting at the film's complex narrative and emotional depth. The typography is bold and angular, consistent with the constructivist aesthetic, emphasizing the film's title and adding to the overall dramatic effect. "Four Lives" poster is not only a promotional tool but also a piece of art that reflects the cultural and political milieu of the Soviet Union in the late 1920s. It captures the spirit of innovation and the emphasis on strong, impactful imagery that characterized Soviet propaganda and film promotion...

Samuel S.Hoskins Statement on Sacred Writing : I sought to delve into the concept of sacred texts, encompassing both religious and mythological narratives. Unlike conventional books, these sacred texts are dynamic, evolving throughout an individual's lifetime and human history. Reading such a text in childhood carries distinct significance compared to revisiting it in later stages of life. To symbolize our transformative journey, I depicted a path leading into the forest, illustrating how our life experiences influence our connection with these profound literary works. Burning Desire - Sable Mare with Flower & Butterfly Mane & Amber-Rose Background
Burning Desire - Sable Mare with Flower & Butterfly Mane & Amber-Rose Background

Burning Desire - Sable Mare with Flower & Butterfly Mane & Amber-Rose Background

By Rose Freymuth-Frazier

Located in Chicago, IL

The sable colored mare bows her head to allow the viewer a better view of her intricate mane which is enhanced with red roses. Red-winged black birds flit around her, a symbol of protection, good luck and even prosperity. The amber rose background intensifies the softness of the horse's coat and the overall aesthetic. This painting is unframed, please contact the gallery for framing options. Rose Freymuth-Frazier Burning Desire oil on canvas 50h x 32w in 127h x 81.28w cm RFF048 Rose Freymuth-Frazier Employing the techniques of the past in the service of contemporary exploration, I seek to add a fresh voice to the sometimes venerable, sometimes dusty and archaic tradition of large-scale figurative painting, while subtly addressing the mythology, objectification and subjugation of women. My subjects are at first glance close to home-new mothers, friends, lovers, artists, dancers-but are then quickly placed at a distance via edgy modification, rigorous technique, minimal contexts and composition, and idiosyncratic use of color. I am also interested in social presentation, artifice, and simulation as they relate to my subjects. I hope to peel away a gossamer thin layer of reality, not just to document the real but also to reveal what might be. BIOGRAPHY Given my restless history, it is curious that I became a figurative painter in New York City. My maternal Grandparents fled Hitler's Germany in the late 1930's. After being refused entry to the United States, they were welcomed into the Dominican Republic, where they happily resided in a small orderly bungalow of their own design and made their living as studio photographer and cheese maker...
