Tathagata: Contemporary Mixed Media Buddha Painting by Sax Berlin
Located in Brecon, Powys
Tathagata - a Pali or Sanscrit word used primarily by Siddartha Gautama Buddha to refer to himself. However it also the term for one who has reached enlightenment through Buddhist principles & has as many as eight different meanings. Generally accepted is the translation one who has thus arrived. And this vivid painting from Berlin has arrived! Drawing on his knowledge of the faith & his research into the theme this is a beautiful & informed rendition of Buddha. The colours are vibrant but enable one to look deep and take the essence of tranquility from the image. This Buddha would sit happily on an altar or a home corner of peace and tranquility, giving an essence of calm & preparedness to those who stand before it. At their best, they’re all just tools to help you find a path through the darkness. None of them really work that well, but they help. Of them all, science seems to be the one right now. Like religion, it provides the glimmer of hope that maybe it will be all right in the end.’ (D. Hirst, quoted in conversation with S. O’Hagan in New Religion Damien Hirst, exh. cat., British Council, London, 2006, p. 5) Born in 1965 in Bristol, Hirst grew up in Leeds and subsequently went to Goldsmith's College in London. Between 1988 and 1990 he curated a series of exhibitions of work by his contemporaries including the highly acclaimed group shows Freeze, Modern Medicine and Gambler. In his own work Hirst has continually challenged the boundaries between art, science, the media and popular culture. A 12-foot tiger shark, a cow and her calf sawn in two, pharmaceutical bottles...

39 x 32 in. Oil Painting "Informed Consent" - Oil Paint, Silver Leaf
Located in Los Angeles, CA
The artist is a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner grant awarded to artists with established abilities, established by the wife of Jackson Pollock. His work is held in various corporate and private collections worldwide. Oil Painting 39 x 32 x 2 inches Oil paint, cold wax, silver leaf on gallery wrapped canvas Framing is optional because painting wraps around canvas Ready to hang on wall, signed on the back by artist Video attached for viewing The beauty of geometrical balance in Cimini's series of work evokes a certain quiet beauty. Strong layers of color and brushwork explore depth and emotion to each unique piece. Cimini's work range from paintings with vibrant color and energy to quiet contemplative pieces with rich layering of depths. Using oil paint, wax medium, and marble dust on canvas, the artist creates a harmonious balance on the canvas, or paper, characterized by textured shades of colors, with linear lines and shapes - allowing a symmetrical, meditative composition of shapes and colors to emerge. ARTIST STATEMENT Building on the architectural origins which have been the basis of my work for over a decade, I have started referring to my compositions as random symmetry. That is, creating a balance on the canvas with no discernible pattern allowing a symmetrical, meditative composition to emerge. I employ the golden mean as a reference which can often be seen in the composition. I use oil paint with a cold wax medium, layering the paint, as organic surfaces evolve within the restrained lines of the composition. During the process an environment develops giving an emotional story to the thoughtfully planned out compositions. My color choices vary, sometimes deliberately creating a series with particular color decisions and sometimes allowing the color choices to impulsively appear fueled by intuition and experience. Color remains a constantly unfolding mystery. In a recent exhibition, MATH TO BEAUTY is series of new paintings employing the golden mean as a basis for the geometric compositions which I've come to call random symmetry. This fascinating ratio, frequently found in nature and geometry, is perceived by many to play a role in the human perception of beauty. So much has been written about the golden ratio; to the point that it's hard to discern fact from fiction. But whatever the truth, the golden ratio has properties that has intrigued and inspired mathematicians, biologists, artists, musicians, historians, architects, psychologists, and even mystics for centuries. Using the golden ratio in the cavalier way that I do keeps me mindful of proportion. Just when I think it's working along comes color to challenge my senses. In the end my intentions are to create beauty in my work. As the Greeks put it, the three ingredients to beauty are: symmetry, proportion, and harmony. Born: 1949, Williamsport, Pennsylvania, USA Education: San Francisco Art Institute School of Visual Arts (New York City) Grants & Awards 2003 Recipient of a Grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation selected by a committee of distinguished art professionals awarded to artists with established ability. "Divine Champagne Poppy" Contemporary Mixed Media Floral Painting on Canvas
Located in New York, NY
This painting by Antoinette is a stylish and luxurious mixed media on canvas piece depicting abstract floral shapes with bold use of color and contrast. The Silver Leaf background allows for the luminosity to shine through effortlessly, as the lines and intricate details of the silk paper laid over paint and mixed media add a most interesting texture. The artist's hand embellishes with free fall paint dripping to add elegant accents. This painting comes housed in a black oak floater frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed. Art measures 31.5 x 31.5 inches Frame measures 33 x 33 inches Antoinette Ferwerda is a renowned Australian artist largely recognized for producing a bold collection of fine artwork that joyfully explores the geometry of shape and the changing light from dusk to dawn. Championing her love for shape, reflection, and nature using a diverse pallet of mixed media to portray her abstract interpretations of nature. Antoinette's diverse past and a childhood that was somewhat nomadic has inspired much of her work today. Antoinette’s backstory reads like something out of an adventure series, having spent her early days living in remote pockets of Papua New Guinea, where she was lucky to spend time in a seaside shack on Ela Beach in Port Moresby, as well as the volcanic town of Rabaul, the Cargo Port Lae, before moving on to Darwin where her Dad worked for the Red Cross and helped with the re-build process after Cyclone Tracy. This was followed by a family stint in Europe, visiting Netherlands, London, Belgium, France, Italy, and Switzerland, before finally settling back in Melbourne for her formative years. Her love for nature and exploring the patterns and relationships she finds within started early. “I’ve been forever fascinated with color and the magical interplay of light”. “Blessed to have a teacher Mum who fostered regular creative time during our nomadic stint, my childhood was largely spent creating, especially outdoors”. Never without a pen, sketchbook or scraps of paper, her natural ability to create in layers instinctively started in these early years. Although her work continues to evolve, she consistently creates works that are rich in layers, resulting in pieces that are optimistic, luminous and full of stories from her colorful life. Her signature work is abundant with color and texture, resulting in a transparent quality of her works. Adaptable to any palette, Antoinette has produced works from a diversity of spectrums and mediums – sun-soaked, muted and ethereal, vibrant, as well as monochromatic with accents of gold. Her themes include abstract and metaphysical interpretations of fossicking in rock pools, exploring the rolling hills of the countryside both here and abroad, the rock formations of the Australian outback and the magical light of a European summer to name just a few. Her dream and longing to become an artist became a reality after starting her own family and farewelling a corporate life in the pharmaceutical industry, with her debut solo exhibition in 2014. Six years on, Antoinette has fast become a firm favorite amongst interior designers, stylists and home decorators alike, having been represented by fenton&fenton, Thom Gallery and Trit House (formally Click On Furniture) to name just a few. Continually experimenting and evolving as an artist, Antoinette invites the viewer to look deeper through surface layers to find hidden stories of color and form. Past collections have been inspired by visits to the bustling markets of India, the morning light outside her childhood beach shack...
