About the Item
A striking and unique abstraction by abstract expressionist, Cleve Gray. His works on paper translate very well as he carefully chose his papers and combined ab-ex action painting with Asian calligraphy aesthetics.
The ochre color is rich and warm - exciting for any interior to make a superlative statement.
Common to all of Cleve Gray’s “series” are his striking use of color applied with varied conventional and unconventional techniques including pouring, staining, and sponging paint or ink onto and over the surfaces of canvas and paper. Another unifying element seen throughout his career is his use of gestural marks which have their roots in Chinese painting and calligraphy, and other ancient archaeological signs.
Framed in a neutral but elegant white washed wood frame and white mat with glass.

Cleve Gray
Cleve Gray was an American Abstract Expressionist painter. He was born on September 22, 1918, in New York. His works are displayed in various museums including, The Brooklyn Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Smithsonian Institute, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and The Phillips Collection. Gray died on December 8, 2004, in Hartford.
