The original photograph used in this collage depicts Viva (Susan Hoffman, born 1938), Warhol and Ultra Violet (Isabellle Collin Dufresne, 1935-2014), whose face obscured by a 1973 New Jersey State Lottery ticket. The photograph was taken by Sam Falk (1901-1991) and published in the New York Times for the obituary of Ultra Violet and numerous other applications.

Jack Roth (1927–2004), also known as "Rodney Jack Roth", was an American painter who developed a style as an Abstract Expressionist, and as a Color Field painter.
He was born in Brockway, Pennsylvania. After studying with Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still and Richard Diebenkorn at the California School of Fine Arts (now the San Francisco Art Institute), he received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa in 1952, and a doctoral degree in mathematics from Duke University in 1962. He taught math at Ramapo College in New Jersey, and also taught for brief periods at the University of South Florida and the University of Kentucky. His work includes several large abstract paintings created by staining raw, unprimed canvas with thinned paint, allowing the colors to soak directly into the weave of the canvas. He was represented by and exhibited at the Knoedler & Co. Gallery in New York City from 1979 to 1986 and was named New Talent Graphic artist of the year in 1963 by Art in America on the recommendation of MoMA curators Dorothy Miller and William S. Lieberman. In 1979 he was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship and in 1982 he received a New Jersey Council on the Arts Award.
He exhibited paintings in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum "Younger American Painters" (May 12 to July 25, 1954) – alongside Sonia Gechtoff, William Baziotes, Morris Louis, Richard Diebenkorn, Adolph Gottlieb, Philip Guston, Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Jackson Pollock and others. This was one of the first major exhibitions of Abstract Expressionism at an American art museum, and it traveled to the Portland Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the New Orleans Museum of Art. He also exhibited at MoMA in 1963 and MoMA purchased several works by Roth for its permanent collections.

Jack Roth
A pivotal talent and pioneer of the Abstract Expressionist movement while he was still in his 20s, postwar American artist Jack Roth created an immense body of work over the course of several decades. Today original Jack Roth paintings are widely collected all over the world.
After serving in both the U.S. Army and the Air Force, the Pennsylvania-born Roth studied art at the California School of Fine Arts, now known as the San Francisco Art Institute, under American painters Mark Rothko, Richard Diebenkorn and Elmer Bischoff. Despite his studies on the West Coast, Roth returned to PA and earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry at Penn State University in 1951. He subsequently completed his MFA work at the State University of Iowa and earned a Ph.D. in mathematics at Duke University.
Staged in 1954, the “Younger American Painters” exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum was a seminal show for Abstract Expressionism in the United States. A young Roth exhibited there as a 27-year-old alongside Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Robert Motherwell. The well-established art dealership Knoedler & Co. in New York City added Roth to their star-studded roster, where his work appeared alongside paintings and sculptures by Alexander Calder, Nancy Graves, Adolf Gottlieb, Michael Goldberg and Frank Stella.
Over the course of his career, Roth taught math at several universities. While working on his doctoral thesis, in around 1963, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City purchased several of his artworks for their permanent collection, and he earned accolades in Art in America magazine. In 1979, Roth was awarded Guggenheim Fellowship in painting. Today, Roth’s work is held in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art and the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Stephen Longstreet (1907-2002)
Born Chauncy Weiner (sometimes spelled Wiener) in New York City in 1907, Longstreet reinvented himself on a regular basis. Changing his name first to “Henry,” then “Henri,” he started his career as a commercial artist for a department store. In various public biographies he claimed to have studied in New York, London, and Paris, and said he was a student of cartoonist Ralph Barton (1891-1931). Facts that can be documented are that he was art editor for Golfer and Sportsman magazines, and was a contributor to various other magazines including The New Yorker, Saturday Evening Post, Colliers, Life, and Hooey, among others. He wrote sketches for NBC radio and the Rudy Vallee Show.
