More about the artist : Erwin Bechtold was born in Cologne in 1925. In 1944, he graduated in graphic arts to become a typographer, but during his apprenticeship years, he realized that this profession did not offer him the creative possibilities he was looking for. After brief studies at the Kölner Werkschule with Friedrich Vordemberge, he left for Paris where he worked with Fernand Léger. In Paris, he is preparing a trip to Barcelona. Enthusiastic about Spain, he decides to stay there. He soon established contacts with the Catalan avant-garde, the artists of the group “Dau al Set”. In 1956 made his first individual exhibition at the Salle Gaspar in Barcelona, supported by the "Club 49", an underground cultural movement. These are large-area material paintings with concentrations in the center or at the edges. During a later exhibition in Madrid at the Buchholz Gallery, he got to know the painters of the “El Paso” group. In 1954, Bechtold visited Ibiza for the first time. At the time, the island hosted artists from all over the world. In 1957, Bechtold returned temporarily to Germany, where he lived in Berlin. He receives an invitation to participate in the exhibition “A New Path in Art” at the Kunsthalle Mannheim. It was there that his first meeting with German painters of his generation took place. Since 1958, Bechtold has lived with his second wife Christina in San Carles. It was at this time that the “Grupo Ibiza 59” was created, which Bechtold helped to found. In 1961, he was invited for the first time to an exhibition of contemporary Spanish art that toured European capitals. Until 1963, Bechtold produced paintings of organic forms. They are exhibited at the Kunstverein in Cologne but are also presented at the Leicester Gallery in London. In 1965, geometric elements appeared for the first time in his paintings. In 1966, Bechtold was invited as a professor to England. At that time, he also participated in the activities of the “Syn” group in Germany; in 1968, he exhibited his works at the fourth Documenta in Kassel. In 1979, he created the Monoserie, a painting and sound installation that was first shown at the Miró Foundation in Barcelona and then at the museums of Ludwigshafen and Palme in Mallorca. In 1987, he started the series “Theme / angle / surface / space”. Between 1986 and 1988, Bechtold carried out some major integration works such as the four facades of the Reiss-Museum in Mannheim. From 1989, his work was exhibited in the museums of Barcelona, Berlin, Budapest, Cologne, Frankfurt, Freiburg, Hanover, Heidelberg, Ibiza, Madrid, Mannheim, Palme de Mallorca, San Sebastian, Seville, Stuttgart, Valencia and Washington, between other cities. Bechtold has received several recognitions for his artistic work: the Joan Miró Prize (mention, 1973), the Sixth Ibiza Biennial Prize (1974); for his works of interior architecture, the FAD Prize, Barcelona (1961). In 1962 Erwin Bechtold was elected member of the Deutscher Ku? Nstlerbund; in 1983, from the Akademie der Ku? nste in Mannheim and, in 1990, he received the honorary title of Professor of Land Baden-Wu? rttemberg. In Ibiza he received the Premi Illes Pitiuses (2005) and the Prei Ramon Llull de las Ill es Balears (2006). Bechtold's work is characterized by a constant balance or imbalance - it is the disturbing moment that disturbs the harmony of opposites which always dominates; starting with the beginnings of informalism in the 1950s and the inclusion of geometric elements in the 1960s, his evolution pushed him to create pictorial compositions in which he brought out the tension of the duality existing between hardness constructivism and the freedom of the informalist movement. Painter of material and researcher of form, with a balanced evolution, he resists fashions while always retaining his personal style.

Untitled 67 - signed AP
Located in London, GB
Gfeller + Hellsgård - Untitled 67 Screen-print on paper - signed & numbered - 2016 This is a rare A.P (artist proof) from the Untitled 67 print run. It's handprinted 5 colours as split-fountain. Size 80 x 60 cm, with a 5 cm white border, the condition is good, it will be shipped rolled in a hard tube. Artist info: Gfeller + Hellsgård is an artist duo working in Berlin. They've created an unique painterly screen-print-style which includes colour overlaps, smudges, bleeding, glitches and transparencies. In 1995 while studying at Ecole Supérieur des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg, Christian Gfeller (born 1973, Alsace) started publishing screen-printed graph'zines and artists' books under the moniker Bongoût (good taste). Bongoût found it's roots in the french D.I.Y art punk scene and, together with an handful of people, also organised concerts, party's and performances in an old warehouse named Lactina in Kehl, across the Rhine from France. The location became cult with its first techno parties, noise concerts and art performances, as well as exhibitions. Christian's first screen-print studio was located in Lactina and beside zine and book making, he designed and printed posters for the events as well as record covers for the cult garage trash punk label Yakisakana Rcds. In 2000, FLTMSTPC in Paris published a polaroid book by Christian, where this vivid time at Lactina was well documented. During this period Christian also played in several local bands: Pitfall, Elcamino and The Cheeraks. Christian Gfeller met Anna Hellsgård (born 1980, Stockholm) at a concert in Berlin on September 11th 2001. After Anna's short art study at Konstskolan in Stockholm, she was eager to develop her photographic interest and become an assistant to a commercial photographer for 2 years. In the meantine Anna also was Dj-ing in several clubs and bars in Stockholm. A vague memory from 1991 of her first Berlin visit and her music interest draw her to move to Berlin in 2001. There she continued with her B/W photographs and shot hundreds of pictures during her first time in Berlin. When she met Christian, she got immediately drawn to the french underground scene and its subversive graphic art content. Whenever she visited Christian in Strasbourg she would help him with his printing at the Lactina studio. In 2002 the couple moved to Bordeaux and built up a screen-print studio there. This is where they started to work full time together as an artist-duo, publishing their own zines, artist's books as well as designing gig posters and record covers. The year and a half in Bordeaux was very prolific and they grounded together a strong artistic direction and a unique style. Bongoût editions continued to grow there as well. The artist-duo produced over 40 screen-printed books in collaboration with other artists during this time. In 2004 they decided to move back to Berlin, and relocated their studio to the Friedrichshain neighbourhood. Over the years, the duo released over 200 screen-printed zines and artists' books, some by themselves and others in collaboration with artists from around the world: David Sandlin...

Future III: modernist urban architectural monoprint & collage in gray blue black
Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
"Future III" is a Bauhaus-inspired monotype and collage (work on paper) reminiscent of the aesthetic of Le Corbusier. It is part of Bouton’s "Habitat and Urban Matter" series, which is inspired by the straight lines of modernist architecture and hard-edged geometrical forms of the urban environment. Bouton, a French printmaker from Paris who has also lived in London, Myanmar, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Turkey, creates work that responds to her experiences during her travels and the cultures she encountered. Since settling in the Philadelphia area, she has been inspired by the urbanism of the city, whether a sleek, new apartment block, an abandoned warehouse, or a half-demolished home. Her latest works are interpretations of these buildings, with both broad street views and focused details from single structures –- the pattern of the skyline, a patchwork of broken windows, an industrial color palette. She is drawn to the history of the spaces and lives lived within these buildings, as well as their intrinsic beauty of the structures, whether that beauty emerges from design or degradation, or some combination of the two. Signed and dated. Bouton is a French artist living and working in the Philadelphia area whose boundary-pushing printmaking and paper works exhibit influence from living and working in international cities across the globe. Bouton earned her BFA in Painting and Printmaking and her MFA in Arts and Textile Design from the prestigious ESSAA Duperré in Paris, France. Since leaving Paris 15 years ago, Bouton has lived and exhibited her work internationally in Paris (France), London (UK), Philadelphia (USA), Rangoon (Burma/Myanmar), Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Dakar (Senegal) and Istanbul (Turkey). She has presented solo exhibitions at the Biennale de l’Art Africain...
