Feroz Khan - Untitled Acrylic on Canvas, 36 x 48 inches About Artist : Mohammad Feroz Khan was born in 1978 and brought up in Delhi. He have not undergone any formal training in Art but gained experience first from his Father Late Mohd Ibrahim Khan, a Banner Painter. Subsequently, under the able tutelage of renowned Artist Late Manjit Bawa (Guruji - his Mentor in Art) he studied and learned Art for 14 years. Bawa took much care to train him to use brush and pastels on a variety of subjects, also guided him to savor the beauty and nuances of Texture. Then, as an initial step, his Guru guided him through a maze of depictable visuals scattered over the all too familiar places of Delhi. He asked him to draw inspiration from real life. Deferential to my master’s academic style of figuration, he soon convinced his guru of deft brushmanship and ability to create naturalistic human and animal forms, avoiding explicit linear delineation, while projecting solid masses. He chose to see the ordinary things and scenes that make up for our everyday life. He look at the little details of a tailor working on a manual sewing machine or a street-side vendor selling a cool drink on a hot summer day or rickshaw pullers or beggars and various other street vendors – denizens of the city’s poorest quarters. It is the sheer simplicity of each of these activities that appeals him and is reflected through his Canvas. By Farhad Hussain

Located in Kolkata, West Bengal

Farhad Hussain - Playing - 30 x 42 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Style: Farhad Hussain's colourful work that includes drawings and watercolours besides paintings on canvas, features day to day visual experiences of middle-class urban India. He endows his narrative with iconography and personality through his figuration, their posturing, dress and the surrounding imagery. The drama of subtle complexities of human relationships and social environment are grounded with a sense of satire mixed with pathos. Farhad’s colours help enhance the brightness and aura of his paintings while he also partakes elements from traditions such as the formulaic textile patterns of Indian miniatures. His compositions are often set in a familiar drawing room or a social space, playing out with humour and sarcasm, the narrative psychologies of human life and encounters at various levels. This young artist who has also experimented with sculpture has already carved a niche and an instantly recognizable individualistic style befitting his aesthetics and concerns. Farhad has chosen to use tempera on cloth for his works, the media allowing him to achieve the desired vibrancy of colours. A slow build-up of images and spontaneous flow of colour while balancing colour and composition simultaneously follow structured formatting. This meticulous planning in the composition and layout is the beginning of a process from where onwards it is very spontaneous and intuitive. Another technique used throughout Farhad’s work is the method of applying the colour: dot-by-dot till the entire area is completely covered. Various elements from miniature paintings, Kalighat paintings, Japanese prints and images from mass media are scrutinized, transformed and transferred on to the surface through the artists own style of expression. About the Artist and his works : Born: 1975 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Education : 2003: B.F.A. in painting from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan, 2005: M.F.A. in painting from M.S. University, Baroda. By Asit Poddar

Located in Kolkata, West Bengal

Asit Poddar - Euroscape - 1 - 8.5 x 8 inches (unframed size) Mixed Media on Canvas. Style : It is not enough to say that Asit Poddar is a multifaceted and greatly talented artist. Not only a gifted watercolorist, Poddar is also experienced and very well established in the fields of filmmaking, animation, photography, publishing, graphic designing and printmaking. For this artist, firsthand experience was a great source of inspiration. To look into the past - both recent and distant - is a creative process. It is this continuous flow of the past and the present that reflects richly in his paintings. In his works, you can see what he saw in his extensive travels to South Asian and European countries. You can feel the silence he felt on the mountains and revel in the world he sees through his mind's eye. His fluid lines and watercolor fills capture everything that Poddar takes in, from the vast expanse of high ominous peaks and deep dark gorges in black and white to the city of Varanasi and the river Ganges in vivid color. Human figures are missing in the paintings, but it seems like this is part of the artist's effort in his intent to leave a strong imprint in the mind of the viewer. About the Artist & his works : Education : 1980-82 : International Animation and Photography Institute, Japan 1972-77 : Government Art College, Kolkata. Selected Solo Exhibitions : 2011 : 'Mindscapes', Galerie Serafin, Vienna 2010 : 'Euroscapes', Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai 2008 : Kanishka Art Gallery, Kolkata 2007 : Educatorio della Provvidenza, Turin, Italy ; Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai & Chitrakoot Art Gallery, Kolkata. 2006 : Penzenau Castel, Mereno, Italy & Right Lines Art Gallery, Bangalore 2005 : Habiart, Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi & Hacienda Gallery, Mumbai 2004 : House of Lords, London, UK & Artworld, Chennai 2003 : Hacienda Art Gallery, Mumbai ; Castella Monte, Italy & Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai 2002 : Chitrakoot Art Gallery, Kolkata & Right Lines Art Gallery, Bangalore 2001 : Chitrakala Parisath, Bangalore ; Habitat Centre, Delhi & Artists Centre, Mumbai 2000 : Genesis Art Gallery, Kolkata 1999 : Gallerie La-Ruche, Tokyo, Japan 1997 : Kunjeon Art Gallery, South Korea 1996 : Koga Art Museum, Ibaraki, Japan & Kunjeon Art Gallery, South Korea 1994 : Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata.
