About the Artist:
Kenneth B Walsh (1922-1980)
In the 1950s, Kenneth Bonar Walsh came to Montauk from New York City to paint seascapes, catch fish, sing of Nature's beauty, put down roots, and, later, develop a style of painting all his own.
The Boston native moved to New York after attending the School of Practical Art on the G.I. Bill, where he began his career in the art department of Lever Brothers. But he had bigger dreams, and soon established the Bonart Studio, a commercial art business. RCA Records, the Ideal and Transogram toy companies, and the Schrafft’s candy and chocolate company were among the studio’s clients.
The business a success, he began to take vacations. He liked Montauk so much that he built a house in Hither Hills...

Pappelendam was born in Donnelson, Iowa, studied from 1904-1909 at the School of the Art Institute, continuing with classes until she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in art education in 1926. Pappelendam gained a doctorate in 1929 from the University of Chicago, where she helped establish both the Department of Art in 1924 and the Renaissance Club, and then taught in the University Department of Art part time from 1919 to 1948, overlapping with the Art Institute where she taught for fifty years, from 1909-1959. Amazingly for all of the energy she devoted to teaching, she is equally and perhaps best remembered as an oil painter, whose subjects included Southwest landscapes and scenes from Florence, Arizona. She won numerous awards and had her work included in 250 art exhibitions both here and abroad.

Though American sources often report Robinson’s birth year as 1875, according to his baptism record he was actually born in 1867. He should not be confused with the American artist Harry A. Robinson or the British painter Harry W. Robinson.Hal Robinson arrived in NYC in 1893 and by 1900 had a studio on West 57th Street. Historians suggest that after 1910, Robinson painted at Old Lyme and was influenced by Childe Hassam and Willard Metcalf.
