About the Item
"Yosemite Reflections" It's a winter's day in Yosemite. A
recent snowfall powders the creekside brush,
the twigs and the fallen branches. Beyond and out of sight, the stately and
towering pine trees cast shimmering reflections and dark shadows. The air
is clear and cold and the moment is filled with
wonder.
Fine artist Carole Garland's Yosemite painting is part of her "Reflection"
series, one of her more abstract works in the group. Garland uses the
reflections as a jumping off place to begin playing with color
harmonies, loaded brushes with three or more pigments, squeegee swipes, at
the same time using careful brushwork creekside to give definition to the
branches and logs.
The 36"x36" oil painting on a wood panel is wired for ease of hanging. Its
natural wood sides can serve as a frame.
Artist Carole Garland has studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the
University of the Americas, Mexico City. She has participated in workshops
in France and Mexico and her most recent influence is
David Gallup, former vice president of the California Art Club, fine artist
and teacher. She has been
painting in oils for more than 20 years.
Garland is in art collections throughout the U.S. and has shown in venues
all over Southern California.
Her most recent group exhibits include DeFrenS Gallery, Westlake Village;
Gallery of Hermosa Beach; Betsy Lueke Art Center, Burbank; Gallery at West
Los Angeles College; Santa Paula Art Museum; Topanga Canyon
Gallery; Channel Islands Studio show, Camarillo; Kathryne Designs,
Montecito and individual shows at TAG Gallery, Bergamot Station and Los
Angeles.

Carole Garland
Carole Garland, born and raised in Chicago, graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., She studied figure drawing and oil painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of the Americas, Mexico City. After moving to Los Angeles she studied privately with Keith Finch, Venice. Concurrent with her art pursuits, Garland worked as a magazine editor, publicist, director's assistant, book editor, and sales executive. After a brief hiatus from painting, she looked to the outdoors for inspiration and began plein air watercolor studies with Don Blaisdell, UCLA.

A quiet street of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is the subject of this painting by Carole Garland. An elderly woman cautiously makes her way along a narrow path using a tree to lend support. The orange wall provides much needed shade in the afternoon heat. Light seeps through the branches of a colorful bougainvillea patterning the orange bulwark.
Artist Carole Garland who studied art in both San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City shares her appreciation of the simplicity of this quiet backstreet in a Mexican town. A special moment in time is brought to life. Garland uses the scumbling technique and a paint laden palette knife to achieve texture and depth in the leaves, the branches and the rough pavement of the street.
This oil on wood panel is 16"x20" and its natural wood sides serve as a frame. The painting is wired for easy hanging. This is a stand-alone artwork but was conceived as a companion piece to Orange Wall of San Miguel #1. Together they are 16"x 40".
