Christopher Mark Brennan"Lined Circles" Geometric Abstract by Christopher Mark Brennan
About the Item
Set against a dark, textured black background, this artwork explores the interplay between order and disruption through geometric abstraction. Five white circles, thick and dimensional, align precisely along a curved white rod, forming a sequence that suggests both structure and fluidity. The bold black acrylic strokes create depth, absorbing light and enhancing the contrast between the smooth, bright elements and the expressive background, and overseeing this enigmatic arrangement, a vivid red, round shape hovers in the upper right corner—a stark, flat presence confronting the dynamic formation below.
Mark Brennan masterfully balances geometry and movement, where each form interacts in a silent yet powerful dialogue. The striking red accent disrupts the calculated tension between the structured white elements and the vast, consuming black field, creating a visual rhythm that challenges perception. Signed and dated 2020, this work exemplifies Brennan’s signature exploration of spatial relationships, inviting viewers to engage with its subtle yet commanding presence.
Christopher Mark Brennan was born in 1950. He attended Washington University School of Fine Arts in St Louis, Missouri in 1974. After 1983 he made covers for magazines and artworks for Universal Studios, 3 cover Art for Frank Zappa CD, and other musicians.
This work was more like photo-realism in large format.
He now lives in Santa Barbara and also makes smaller but still very striking paintings. His imagination seems to have no limit!
He lives a private life, not sharing much online besides his art.
Shrouded in secrecy, the artist's private life is a fascinating aspect that contrasts with the current trend of pop art and photorealistic-inspired paintings. While this artistic movement often portrays art as a consumable entity - one that is temporary, cheap, and quickly discarded - many artists have also become products to be rapidly consumed and forgotten. However, Brennan has managed to avoid this trend and reverse it.
