About the Item
John Vitale works on many canvases at once, moving between them, adding brushstrokes in acrylic paint, house paint and mark making with pencil and China markers. His process is intuitive, a sort of push and pull finding tension, leading to visual harmony, only to generate more tension with a subsequent mark. "Panhandler" reflects the artist's recent experimentation and passion for the application of the color black.
Vitale lives and works in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In addition to his career as a painter, he owns a skateboard brand and is an avid skateboarder.
