This work by Lucien Adrion is a wonderful representation of his Post-Impressionist works at the seashore by the French Riviera. Using a bright palette of colors, Adrion executes this piece with much attention to detail with many boats situated along the marina. There are palm trees and buildings placed in the distance, as we can feel the warmth of the sun contrasted with the cool breeze of the water. Lucien Adrion was born May 25, 1889 in Strasbourg, France. He was a French Post-Impressionist painter, draftsman, and printmaker known for his depictions of the French countryside and beaches, as well as Parisian life including landscape, still life, figure, and landmarks paintings. He began his initial studies in Strasbourg as a technical draughtsman. In 1907, at the age of 18, he left his hometown Strasbourg and traveled to Paris, where he found employment in a large drafting company to work as a fashion illustrator. Adrion changed his mind upon arrival and rather than working for a large company, he decided to peruse his artistic career by traveling to London, Munich, and Frankfurt. As the World War broke out he had to go to Berlin, where he studied as an engraver with Hermann Struck, who was also the teacher of Marc Chagall. He remained in Berlin until the war ended and after the demobilization, Lucien would study engraving under Franz Ritter von Struck...

Born in Sydney in 1910, Alan Robert Colquhoun Grieve studied at the Julian Ashton School and the East Sydney Technical College and with Australian artist Herbert Edward Badham. His work is held in private collections the world over, including The Art Gallery of New South Wales, The Fred & Elinor Wrobel Collection in Sydney and the Howard Hilton Collection. From there he went to Rome, where he also took up sculpture. Settling down in Munich he became a member of the Ktinster Genossenschaft and Luitpoldgruppe. Paid frequent visits to Italy, Spain, and the Tyrol.
Has lived in England since 1901. Exhibits at Munich, Berlin, Salon at Paris, and Royal Academy. Figure and landscape painter.

A painter, sculptor, writer, and teacher, John Weir was a highly talented man whose painting was overshadowed by his father, Robert Weir, the long-time West Point Academy drawing teacher, and his brother, J Alden Weir, well-known impressionist painter.
His distinguished reputation was primarily based on his accomplishments as a teacher and administrator. For many years, from 1869 to 1913, John Weir was the Director of the Yale University School of Fine Arts. He was also a commissioner of the art exhibition at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.
Weir was born at West Point, New York, and by age 20, had a studio in New York City in the Tenth Street Studio Building, the first building in America dedicated to art studios, and there he associated with many leading painters of the day.

This artwork , signed IF in the left down corner, by the author Iain Faulkner, is a very well studied composition with two dancers, dressed in blue color, lying on a beautiful mosaic floor with gold border, having a rest. The circle design of the mosaic, the figures in three quarters in parallel; opposite the postures, the suits, and the colors blue and flesh. This complementation above and below, and to the left and right of the painting, gives the painting a surprising composition and excellent balance.
Despite the thick brushwork, the author achieves a very subtle effect in the definition of the two beautiful figures and very successful effects of light and shadow.
Iain Faulkner acknowledges the influence on his painting of artists such as Sargent, Degas, Whistler and, especially, Vermeer, showing scenes with figures performing everyday tasks while lost in thought, like this two dancers.
This piece was originaly purchased from Albemarle Gallery in London.

Born in Glasgow in 1973 and graduating from Glasgow School of Art in 1996 with a BA (Honours) in Fine Art.
His degree show was sell-out.
Iain Faulkner is now one of Britain's top figurative painters, a stablished artist with the Albemarle/Pontone Galleries in London, and with numerous solo shows in New York, Paris, Geneva, Monaco and Bologna .
His work appears in many private and corporate collections and in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
In 2010 he was commissioned to paint the European Ryder Cup...
