Abstract geometric artwork by a contemporary artist Gerald Wolfe. Gerald Wolfe’s wall pieces have a three-dimensional, architectural feel. The artist’s approach to his paintings is intuitive. He meticulously creates his works step by step, imbuing shapes and lines with energy. The interplay of forms, color, and texture creates tension between flatness and depth. His work can become a unique gift and will be a wonderful addition to any space, be it a living room of a modern home or a lobby of a commercial building. Gerald Wolfe received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Maryland in 1972, discovered his interest in art and went on to study fine arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. In the summer of 1974, he also studied at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. From his first show in 1979, a summer invitational at OK Harris Gallery, Gerald has shown his work on a consistent basis in New York, including such galleries as Denise Bibro Fine Art, NYC, and Kim Foster Gallery, NYC . John CRASH Matos "Untitled (Blaaaam!)" Spray Paint on Shaped Canvas 37 x 35 inches Born John Matos in 1961, CRASH was raised in the Bronx, New York. At the age of 13, he began following the older teens from his neighborhood to the train yards and began bombing. Taking the name “CRASH” after he accidentally crashed the computer in his school, his name began appearing on trains circulating all throughout New York City. By 1980, he began transitioning from train yards to galleries. He curated the groundbreaking "Graffiti Art Success for America" at Fashion MODA, launching the graffiti movement that has remained very active through today. CRASH’s career took off and he saw instant popularity throughout Europe and America, and eventually Asia. Oli Sorenson’s solo exhibition, «Après moi, le déluge » discloses a series of impactful works on the deadly perils of capitalism through a group of paintings, prints, watercolours, and installations. The title draws a parallel between our times and Louis the XV’s sentiment, the French king’s citation indicating his disconnect with what chaos he left in the wake of his excesses. The same phrase was later revisited by Marx to stigmatize the bourgeoisie of his era, as the leitmotif of the flood strongly features throughout history and human consciousness from past myths to our very factual and impending future. Biblical creatures were punished for their sins by torrents, and today with climate change, we are also faced with rising seas and historic inundations worldwide. Hence the mood of Sorenson’s show reflects our anxieties in the face of natural disasters and the weight of the Anthropocene—the impact of human activities on the Earth’s ecosystem—bearing down on our collective psyche. Sorenson’s oeuvre depicts a myriad of humanitarian crises occurring as we stand on the edge of an ecological precipice.
