OYV-19 - Contemporary Abstract Collage Painting- Yellow, measuring tape

Located in Signal Mountain, TN

OYV-19 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has re-purposed an old Lenny Kravitz album cover as the structure of the piece. On the edges of the piece you can see a complex edge consisting of a faux leather album cover, nylon mesh, and torn paper. As imagery, Mack has chosen musical notes, tape measure, and other music composition elements through Zerox copy adhered by matte medium to the surface. Mack then creates his own color to further tweak and personalize the piece. Eric Mack (b.1976, Charleston) creates mathematically based renderings with a distinct post-modern twist. Works are informed with super imposed grids, patterns, and portals. Layered surfaces are created with paint, found objects, natural fibers, and synthetic substrates that explore the systems of our visual world. His most recent show “Charting the Terrain” is on view now at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles was covered by the Los Angeles Times, KCRW, and LALA Magazine. His last solo exhibition was titled "Impossible Architectures" at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. Recent group shows include "Abstract Mind" at the Czong Institute of Contemporary Art, South Korea, "Small Works 2017 at Trestle Gallery, Brooklyn, "Checkered History", Outpost Artist Resources, Brooklyn, N.Y. 2015; Collections include High Museum Atlanta, Ing Investments, Hartsfield Jackson International Airport - Atlanta + Atlanta Gas & Light Co. By Erró

Located in Östermalm, Stockholms län

Artwork size: 81 x 119 cm. Frame size: 94 x 132 cm Free shipment worldwide. Acquired directly from the artist. Signed and dated on the verso. “I paint because painting is a private Utopia,” Erró writes of his art. The landscapes in Erró’s work are a constantly changing kaleidoscope of images, multivalent and mysterious, not infrequently controversial, bursting with life – and titillating, too! There is room in his pictures for both paradise and visions of fear. Erró is the alias of Gudmundur Gudmundsson, born on 19 July 1932 in Olafsvik, in north-western Iceland. Since Gudmundur first became enthralled by pictures of works of art in a catalogue from the Museum of Modern Art in New York at the tender age of ten, painting has been his passion and his mission in life. He was accepted into art school in Reykjavik as a 19-year old, subsequently complementing what he had learned there with further studies in Oslo. Erró travelled extensively in Spain, Italy, France and Germany in the 1950s, studying at the Florence Academy of Art in 1954 and at the School of Byzantine Mosaic Art in Ravenna in 1955. It was around this time that he began to exhibit his works, first and foremost in Paris, where he chose to make his home in 1958. During the 1960s he established contact with the Swedish museum director Pontus Hultén, who encouraged him and took him under his wing. Over the years Erró has taken part in hundreds of exhibitions and today his works are on show in museums all over the world, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Erró’s pictorial world is peopled by comic-strip characters and autocratic despots alike. Donald Duck with his Daisy, Chip & Dale, and other Walt Disney creations are unselfconsciously juxtaposed with Greek gods and madonnas. Elsewhere the German dictator Adolf Hitler stands shoulder to shoulder with his Iraqi counterpart Saddam Hussein...

LROM (Love Reign O'er Me)
LROM (Love Reign O'er Me)

LROM (Love Reign O'er Me)

By Tim Bavington

Located in Phoenix, AZ

synthetic polymer on canvas signature, title, year and top on verso Music is the starting point of Tim Bavington’s paintings. Through synthetic polymer paint and spray guns, Bavington translates scores from musicians such as Prince, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, and The Rolling Stones into compositions of vibrant bands of color. The variation in width and color represents the audible shifts and durations throughout a piece of music, a coded, abstract structure that aids in determining each composition. However, the artist explains that the process and paintings are “more intuitive and improvisational than they may appear,” they are not literal translations of the songs. For each musical score that the artist chooses he works to find a palette and compositional framework that reflects the tone of the song through over a dozen studies before beginning work on the final large-scale paintings. The relationship of color and sound has a rich history and dialogue, one that Bavington contributes to through his unique form of creating an experience of both the aural and visual. Tim Bavington was born in 1966 in England. He received his BFA from the Art Center in Pasadena, CA before making the permanent move to Las Vegas, where he completed his MFA at the University of Nevada- Las Vegas. His work is included in the public collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Blake Byrne Collection in Los Angeles, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Denver Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, Palm Springs Art Museum, among many others. Bavington has also completed a number of public art installations; including Pipe Dream Fanfare (for the Common Man) at Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, NV and Louie, Louie at the Edith Green...
