The Dugout, Post Cover

By Norman Rockwell

Located in Fort Washington, PA

Signed by Artist Lower Left The present work was published on the cover of the September 4th, 1948 edition of The Saturday Evening Post. An accompanying “Keeping Posted” article about Norman Rockwell’s process behind the painting was printed on page 10 inside the issue. (Image above) The Post described, “Boston baseball fans saw a strange spectacle at Braves’ Field early this summer. As the stands filled, two respectable-looking men stood on the field staring at the spectators. Every now and then they would point to someone, run up into the stands and invite the man or woman to sit in a box above the dugout. Then the thinner of the two would contort his face into an expression of wild delight or disgust and invite the spectator to do the same, while a photographer made pictures. The explanation is on our cover. The two suspicious characters were Kenneth Stuart, the Post’s art editor and the artist, Normal Rockwell. For a detailed description of how Boston...

"Joe Louis" Oil on Board with Mixed Media, Iconic Portrait, African American

By Henry Heading

Located in Detroit, MI

“Joe Louis” is a breathtakingly beautiful portrait of a man who was the best in his profession yet humble in his demeanor. Louis was an American professional boxer who competed from 1934 to 1951. Nicknamed the Brown Bomber, Louis is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential boxers of all time. He reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1937 until his temporary retirement in 1949. He was victorious in 25 consecutive title defenses, a record for all weight classes. Louis had the longest single reign as champion of any boxer in history. He is widely regarded as the first person of African-American descent to achieve the status of a nationwide hero within the United States, and was also a focal point of anti-Nazi sentiment leading up to and during World War II because of his historic rematch with German Boxer Max Schmeling in 1938. He was instrumental in integrating the game of golf, breaking the sport's color barrier in America by appearing under a sponsor's exemption in a PGA event in 1952. The artist, Henry Heading...

"Ushanka" realist oil painting, fur-trim Russian hat on wood, signed and framed

By Rachel Personett

Located in Sag Harbor, NY

A still life of a Ushanka, a Russian winter hat, fur trimmed with ear flaps. Personett's textured fur and wood table invites the viewers to feel as if they are in the painting. The frayed edges of the strings of the hat suggests this is a well-worn garment, loved for many years. Groupings of snowberries rest beside the hat, a delicate symbol of purity and resilience. Signed "Personett" lower right corner. Framed in a traditional black frame w gold trim. Framed dimensions: 17 x 15 inches Frame has some notable scuffs - but the painting is in excellent condition. Rachel Personett was born in Hawaii, but raised in Colorado. Being the daughter of a pilot she has always traveled extensively. She has studied part time at the Savannah College of Art and Design, The Angel Academy of Art, and finally settled on the Florence Academy of Art, graduating in 2015. In January 2016 she apprenticed the painter Odd Nerdrum in Norway for eight months. Rachel Personett works strictly from life, and enjoys the challenged of painting the ephemeral. Working from life provides the opportunity to travel around the world painting the ever changing people and landscapes. Artist Statement My mother had studied advertising in college, so she knew a lot about arts and good craftsmanship. She did talks at my elementary school each week and on a different artist. I remember being very moved by the images of Van Gogh and Andrew Wyeth. At the Florence Academy I really liked Sargent, Sorolla, Willard Metcalf, Henri Fantin-Latour and Velazquez. At Odd Nerdrums I gained new respect for Rembrandt and was introduced to other Scandinavian painters like Edward Munch...

Mickey Mantle - New York Yankees Baseball Player

By Ron Lesser

Located in Fort Washington, PA

Painting of famed New York Yankees baseball player Mickey Mantle Medium: Painting Signature: Signed Lower Left Contact for dimensions. While growing up, Ron Lesser was recognized for his artistic potential. He was admitted into New York's High School of Music and Art and later the Pratt Institute of Art and the Art Students League, studying under the influential teacher, Frank J. Reilly. Drawing on his extensive fine art background, and inspired by the great classical painters such as N.C. Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, Tom Lovell and others, Ron focuses on historical paintings of high visual impact and strong characterizations. He creates paintings inspired by his fascination of the culture and environment of his subject matter. These paintings bring back the important and often exciting moments that existed in the 19th century. While giving attention to detail, a devotion to strong and dramatic compositions coupled with a unique creative vision sets a Ron Lesser painting apart. This overall impact transports the viewer to another time and place. "I'm trying to tell a story. I like people to look at one of my paintings and feel like they could step into the scene." Lesser created Western movie art for "High Plains Drifter," "Paint Your Wagon," "The Way West," and the story boards for the dream sequence in "A Man Called Horse." He has painted the covers of Western book...
