This is a wonderful work of Pointillism, a technique of painting where small, distinct dots of colour are applied in patterns to form an image. This techniques relies on the ability of the eye and mind of the viewer to blend the colour spots into a fuller range of tones. The practice of Pointillism lies in sharp contrast to the traditional methods of blending pigments on a palette.
Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism. The term 'Pointillism' was coined by art critics in the late 1880s to ridicule the works of these artists, but is now used without its earlier pejorative connotations.

He was later hired by Barclay Records as a producer, and had several hit records in 1968 and 1969. During this period, he was also the chef / owner of two restaurants in Paris, and later a third located in Ibiza, Spain.
Remarkably, as engaged as he was, HM never stopped painting and exhibiting his works. Several of his shows - sponsored by his restaurants and music associates - "sold out" and were favorably written up by the press. Before returning to the United States in 1970, he completed selected studies at L'Ecole Des Beaux Arts and exhibited in Paris and Brussels, Belgium.
HM continued on with his music career in the United States at Warner Brothers Productions where he co-wrote the international hit song, "Look What They Done To My Song, Ma", recorded by Ray Charles, Melanie and other performers. While at Warner he painted a forty foot mural in their Madison Ave., NY headquarters and exhibited his works in the firm's lobby. In 1972 HM was hired by the dynamic songwriter/producer Bob Crewe...

HM continued on with his music career in the United States at Warner Brothers Productions where he co-wrote the international hit song, "Look What They Done To My Song, Ma", recorded by Ray Charles, Melanie and other performers. Thomas Guise studied art at Edinburgh College of Art under Thomson Adam Bruce, RSA (1947-1949) before serving with the Royal Artillery between 1939 and 1946. After returning to Scotland, Guise began working professionally as an artist and commenced his fruitful association with the Featherhal Press. Over the course of his career, he was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards including the Award for Life Drawing (1947). Guise exhibited internationally with success and was a member of the Royal Society of Arts, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolor among others.
Accompanied by an artist catalogue, 'T.G.M. Guise: Propinquity', Featherhall Press Limited, Edinburgh 1996.
