This Dream Again, Part 1 by Misha Gudwin - Color pencils on paper, 2023
Located in Basel, BS
"This Dream Again" is a series created by contemporary artist Misha Gudwin for the group exhibition "Floral & Machine" at St. Paulus Church in Basel in 2023. The drawing conveys a fantasy-like, surrealistic reality, similar to a dreamlike experience. The images are exaggeratedly cute on the one hand and eerie on the other. It is as if we are peering into this otherworld through a shaped canvas frame, memorizing, with its shape, a map of the starry sky or binoculars. The plot and characters refer to various creepy content from the web, somebody like animatronics - mechanical growth dolls or Furby toys. In conveying an absurdist world in this series, the artist was inspired by the visual internet subculture of Wiredcor. Creating such a magical world is an escapist attempt to escape from aggressive reality, an attempt to escape from it into a dreamlike world. - Misha Gudwin is a contemporary artist, born in 1995. His artistic practice is focused on studying the inextricable relationship between material and virtual (digital) objects. He explores the interactions of street and digital environment using found object, reflecting the industrial image of post-Soviet cities. The artist says: "I propose to document our modernity, where the digital is no longer something new, and the human environment has long been combining signs of both material and digital space." Misha's recent solo exhibitions include: 2022 - "Liminal" / Voskhod gallery / Basel 2022 - "The night of Capricorn" / Vyksa Artist-in-Residence / Vyksa 2021 - "Lilac Light...

Twin Towers
Located in Saint Ouen, FR
Artist's comment: "This painting symbolizes the "No Surrender" in the face of terrorist attacks If these last ones make thousands of deaths, they do not come to end of our unconscious "and collective and archaic" which believes in the vigilantes, in the super-heroes, these mutants which we protect. Cat Woman, "right in her boots", certainly looks to the left, the past that she integrates but also to the right, a future that she will make better. The predominance of "green" and the fact that there are more "white runs" than "black runs" brings just what we need: hope. Twin Towers...

Polychrome Gel #15
Located in Greenwich, CT
Polychrome Gel #15 is an oil painting on canvas with a canvas size of 24 x 18 inches, signed, titled and dated on the overlap verso, 'Ben Weiner Polychrome Gel #15 2020'' and framed in a contemporary white frame. Connecting two opposing styles—abstraction and photorealism—Ben Weiner creates hyper-detailed, lush paintings and videos of extremely magnified consumer products, including hair gel, chemical food additives, and deodorant. In his work, he presents such meticulously rendered, close-up views of his subjects that they read as pure abstractions. A through-line in Weiner’s various bodies of work is contemporary culture’s obsession with bodily enhancement through chemical products—whether by using hair products or taking illegal drugs. "The Gel Series presents a virtual environment that is in flux. Based on hair gel, a material that is physically malleable and visually enticing, it has the ability to change one’s physical appearance. In an abstract manner, the painting reflects our current global environment, subject to constant, dramatic change and rapid development- on the one hand through humanity’s ability to alter the face of the earth according to its ideas; on the other through changing environmental conditions and natural disasters". - Ben Weiner Ben Charles Weiner (b. 1980) is a New York based contemporary artist. His work bridges the seemingly opposite styles of hyperrealism, and process-based abstraction. Mr. Weiner has exhibited his work widely in the US and internationally, at institutions including The Carnegie Art Museum, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, The Boca Raton Museum of Art, and The Tarble Art Center. His work is in public collections including Microsoft, Sammlung/Collection, Progressive Insurance, and The Frederick R. Weisman Collection...

Kim’s landscapes are the portrait of her emotions, a freeform blend of memories and feelings. Green is the color between yellow and blue - it’s neutral in tone and energy, balancing and calming one’s mind and emotions. The reason we are so drawn to the green of nature may be our own instincts trying to flee from the endless adrenaline rush society constantly throws us into, always demanding more and faster. The landscapes I drew from were a freeform blend of memories and emotions - the sky, mountains...

Moonlight 07 – Yoshinori Mizutani, Colour, Photography, Art, Sky, Forest, Gold

Yoshinori MIZUTANI (*1987, Japan) Moonlight 07, 2014 Archival pigment print on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta paper 84 x 63 cm (33 1/8 x 24 3/4 in.) Edition of 4 plus 2 artist's proofs print only Yoshinori Mizutani's (*1987, Japan) works suggest new expressive possibilities that mix the domestic traditions of personal and street photography with those of foreign conceptual photography. Mizutani graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography in 2012. He has won a number of prestigious awards including Japan Photo Award in 2013 as well as Foam Talent Call and Lens Culture Emerging Talents Top 50 in 2014. His series Tokyo Parrots was on view at this years Bienne Festival of Photography in Bienne/Switzerland. His foray into photography is fairly recent, he started 5 years ago. Nonetheless, his photographs do demonstrate an innate understanding of how forms, colours, textures and depth translate to the pictoral plane. He is working with a visual vocabulary that has been well established by the work of many photographers active today. Mizutani’s work serves as a good gauge of the visual tropes and photographic styles that are prevalent among young photographers in Tokyo. „The themes of my work are the everyday and the familiar. What is familiar to me, however, could be new to the viewer. It could also be revelatory or something previously overlooked. It is the viewers’ varied responses to and interpretations of images, which makes photography interesting." – Yoshinori Mizutani About Moonlight: Using strobe light...
