By Roger Mayne

Located in London, GB

Signed and dated Signed, titled and dated on reverse Silver gelatin print, printed 2002 13 1/2 x 10 1/4 inches Roger Mayne (1929-2014) is a British photographer known for his series documenting the children of Southam Street, West London. Influenced as much by the St Ives school of artists as by his photographer contemporaries, Mayne consciously printed with high contrast to emphasise the formal qualities of his work and increased the scale of his prints to pursue a dialogue with contemporary painting. The images which Roger Mayne captured between 1956 and 1961 at Southam Street, London represent the most significant personal and professional project of his career. At that time, Southam Street in North Kensington had changed little since Victorian times and was later declared uninhabitable, making way for Erno...

'Who Are You', Shepperton Studios, England

By Terry O'Neill

Located in Westwood, NJ

Terry O’Neill’s candid photojournalistic portraits of creative and political luminaries have included Brigitte Bardot, The Beatles, Audrey Hepburn, Nelson Mandela, and Frank Sinatra, to name just a few, and have appeared on the covers of Life, Rolling Stone, and Vogue. Over the years O’Neill has formed close bonds with many of his sitters, evidenced by the intimate, snapshot-style nature of many of his photographs from the 1960s and ’70s. “I’m a reportage photographer, and I just like fading into the background,” says O’Neill. “The more discrete you are the better off you are.” Terry O’Neill is one of the world’s most collected photographers whose work hangs in national art galleries and private collections worldwide. For over six decades, he has photographed the front line of fame, from the greats of screen and stage to presidents, prime ministers and rock stars. Portrait of the band for the cover of their album 'Who Are You...

Self Portrait on the Roof of the Ansonia (White Pants)

Self Portrait on the Roof of the Ansonia (White Pants)

By Peter Berlin

Located in New York, NY

Archival pigment print Signed in black ink, recto 14 x 11 inches, sheet size 10 x 10 inches, image size This artwork is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. Born in Poland in 1942 as Armin Hagen Freiherr von Hoyningen-Huene, Peter Berlin is a relative of the celebrated fashion photographer George Hoyningen-Huene (1900-1968). Raised in Germany, Peter Berlin received post-secondary education as a photo-technician, and in his early 20s worked as a celebrity portraitist for German television. However, it was around this time that he curiously began designing and sewing his own skin-tight clothing which he would wear as he cruised the parks and train stations in Berlin, Rome, Paris, New York, and San Francisco. After several long-term stays on the east coast of the United States, Peter Berlin eventually moved to San Francisco in 1969, and became a fixture on the steep streets with his signature look and perpetual posing. He soon began producing films and starred in the now iconic “Nights in Black Leather” (1973), co-directed by Richard Abel. Berlin then produced, directed, and starred in “That Boy” the following year, and made four shorter films through the mid- to late-1970s, while publishing and selling his photographic self portraits. Peter Berlin was the subject of several Robert Mapplethorpe photographs...

Romance of Ambrose Bierce #3 [Romance (N.) from Ambrose Bierce #3]

Romance of Ambrose Bierce #3 [Romance (N.) from Ambrose Bierce #3]

By Ralph Eugene Meatyard

Located in New York, NY

From a portfolio of ten gelatin silver prints from original Meatyard negatives (1959-71) Printed April 1974 Edition of 130 Credit stamp, verso 7 x 7.5 inches, image 15 x 12 inches, mount This photograph is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. “Meatyard took his definition of romance from The Devil’s Dictionary (1911) compiled by American writer Ambrose Bierce from the satirical pieces he published weekly in the late nineteenth century. The American grotesque of Bierce’s tall tales is here combined with Meatyard’s Surrealist inclinations and the European, particularly French, interest in primitive masks, perhaps with the intention of creating a parody of high art. Rather than sports fans, the stadium benches...
