Antique Victorian Silver Plated Jewellery Casket Walker and Hall 19thC

This is a lovely antique Victorian silver plated casket bearing the makers mark of the renowned silversmiths, Walker and Hall, Circa 1840 in date.
The square casket freatures an epic mythological scene of the four seasons with eight winged cherubs on the lid.
Each side features the four seasons: spring features a bull and a goddess, summer has a lion and a goddess, autumn has a scorpion and a goddess and winter has a cherub and goddess.
The interior of the box features its original quilted buttoned silk upholstery.
Add some elegance to your home with this lovely casket.
Condition:
In excellent condition with no dings, dents or signs of repair. Please see photos for confirmation.

the business was established in Sheffield in 1845 by George Walker who become an assistant of Dr John Wright. Dr John Wright had conducted important experiments on electroplating, Walker secured the royalty of electroplating for Sheffield.
The business was joined by Henry Hall and became in 1853 Walker & Hall. The factory was at Howard Street, Sheffield, while showrooms were opened in 45 Holborn Viaduct, London. Branches were opened in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cardiff, Belfast, Hull, Bristol, Melbourne and Adelaide (Australia), Cape Town (South Africa).

The body of this silver tea caddy box is embellished with bands of bright cut engraved volute spiraling leaf ornamentation on a matte background to the upper and lower portions; these bands flank a plain undulating bordered panel.
The ornamentation to the surface of the caddy alternates with panels of concave vertical fluted decoration.
This antique Georgian tea caddy is retains the original hallmarked flush hinged covers; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece.

The hinged rectangular top with three oval Signed Wedgwood plaques depicting putti at various pursuits within oval paterae mounted swagged and beaded borders, opening to a morocco leather lined hinged slope enclosing a well, the upper section fitted with candlesticks and compartmentalized for inkwells, above a hinged lid the front with a spring loaded secret drawer opening to a needle or pincushion and spools of thread.
This unusual work box, mounted with blue and white jasperware signed Wedgwood plaques, is English in conception. The writing box was a popular form first used in the 18th c and well into the 19th c for traveling. This type of portable desk was described by the English poet William Cowper in 1785 as 'the most elegant, the compactest, the most commodious desk in the world.'
Additionally, the jasperware plaques, came from Josiah Wedgwood's factory in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. Its proximity to the steel manufacturing city of Birmingham, the birthplace of Matthew Boulton, producer of decorative metalwork (including cut steel mounts) and described by his friend and fellow-industrialist, Josiah Wedgwood, as 'the first Manufacturer in England', certainly suggests an English origin and possibly his handwork.
However, the polished steel mounts are also typical of furniture and objects made in Tula, Russia, where the Imperial Arms Factory was founded by Peter the Great in the early 18th c and which later became known for its decorative objects, including furniture and domestic pieces. The Goncalo Alves case is inlaid and crossbanded with boxwood inlay and superb marquetry decoration of musical instruments. It is raised on a plinth base and is fitted with brass carrying handles.
The music box features a 28cm cylinder playing eight tunes with arrow and adjustable lyre damper, with handwritten "Tremolo a Zither" play sheet and makers plate for Qualite Excelsior Sondrite Extra Puissant Harmonie.

This exceptional antique George V sterling silver and enamel cigarette case has a plain square form with rounded corners.
The anterior and posterior covers of this antique silver case are plain and unembellished.
This case is fitted with a plain rounded push fit catch, which when released reveals a concealed secondary cover.
This hinged push fit cover is ornamented with an impressive erotica hot enamel scene depicting a female figure, partially undressed and bathing.
This concealed cover opens to allow access to the hinged compartments.
This impressive example of antique silverware retains the original gilt interior.
Such concealed antique cases are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

This is a good papier mâché, rectangular shaped black lacquered lidded box, hand enamelled and gilded, made in Japan during the 19th century, early Meiji period.
This rectangular shaped papier mâché box has a well fitting hinged lid, with the box base and lid slightly domed. The box was probably originally made as a pocket box but could easily sit on a desk or dressing table as required.
