But the truth is, this small box chest of drawers is called "Jouban", one of an essential tools of Japanese Urushi lacquer craftsmen.

The hinged lid opens to reveal a plain, bright red lacquered interior. This box is in good original condition with a few very minor age related marks and losses to the black lacquer.
