Very fine 19th century English Chippendale long case grandfather clock by Baxondale and Company, Manchester. Exceptional carving and beautiful designs on the clock face.

In the form of a putto with a wheel barrow carrying a keg mounted with a clock face topped by a crane, on a rectangular chased plinth ending in bun feet.

Beautiful details can be found in winged cherubs on left and right, garlands, clock face, and female figure wearing sandals draped over the top.

The back of the clock-face is coated in bright red: causing a very subtle red “aura” at the edge of the clock.

The clockwork is fixed in between the columns. Clock face with decorative ring of acanthus leaves and Roman numerals (slightly abraded).

The back plate is stamped with the numbers 15987. The clock face has faded letters, mostly illegible.

New brass BA screws have been install all round to the original spec. One face of the clock is hinged to allow access to change the time via the original adjustment rods.

Marked with manufacturer's name on clock's face. Takes a single AA battery. 9” x 9” x 1”
