How Much is a Cubism Picasso?
- 1stDibs ExpertMarch 22, 2022Pablo Picasso began painting in the cubist style in 1907. His first known work of Cubism was Les Demoiselles D'Avignon. In this painting, five nude women appear boxy and geometric. In later years, Pablo Picasso's cubist paintings became even more heavily abstracted with the human form scarcely recognizable among his fragmented geometric shapes. - 1stDibs ExpertMarch 22, 2022Many things inspired Pablo Picasso to paint in the cubist style. The Cubism movement grew out of the abstract paintings that artist Paul Cézanne produced toward the end of his life. Picasso pushed the abstraction, looking to African masks and tribal art for more inspiration. In addition, the primitive style of Henri Rousseau inspired him.
