Ouderkerk aan den Amstel – Antique Dutch View Print by Rademaker, Le Long, 1732
This charming antique print titled Ouderkerk aan den Amstel 1670 shows a picturesque view of the town of Ouderkerk, near Amsterdam, as it appeared in the 17th century. The composition centers around the church and tower, set against a row of traditional Dutch houses with neatly tended gardens, all backed by tree-lined countryside. The scene is rendered in fine detail and carefully hand-colored, giving it a delicate and vibrant character.
The print originates from Kabinet van Nederlandsche en Kleefsche Oudheden by Isaac Le Long, published in 1732. This important historical work compiled topographical and architectural views from across the Netherlands and parts of Kleve (then under Dutch influence), preserving the memory of places that were rapidly changing. The plate is accompanied by a short description in Dutch, French, and English, explaining the age and appearance of the tower in Ouderkerk, including a note that the original tower was built in 1670, damaged in 1674, and then repaired.
