Located in Sitges, Barcelona

Mallorca Mediterranean Seascape Original Oil Painting, Early 21st Century Artist: Francesc Casademont Mercader (Spanish, born 1948) Title: Mallorca Seascape Date: 2011 Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 20 × 20 cm / 7.88 × 7.88 in Signature: Signed lower left, “Casademont Mercader” Verso: Signed and inscribed by the artist on the reverse with reference number Condition: Excellent condition Frame: Unframed Origin: Spain Subject: Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Mediterranean coast DESCRIPTION Original oil on canvas by Spanish Catalan painter Francesc Casademont Mercader, created in 2011 and depicting the Mediterranean coast of Mallorca. In this intimate marine landscape, Casademont reduces the scene to its essential elements: sea, distant mountains, sky and a small rocky formation emerging from the water. Soft mauve, violet, blue and muted rose tones create the hazy atmosphere characteristic of the Mediterranean at moments of changing light. The distant coastline almost dissolves into the horizon, producing a remarkable sensation of depth despite the painting’s compact 20 × 20 cm format. Casademont’s restrained composition and subtle tonal gradations transform the recognizable Mallorcan landscape into something more contemplative and timeless. Rather than describing every geographical detail, the painter concentrates on atmosphere, silence and the emotional effect of light over water. Signed lower left “Casademont Mercader”. The reverse also bears the artist’s signature and handwritten reference inscription. Presented unframed and in excellent condition. ARTIST BIOGRAPHY Francesc Casademont Mercader, born in 1948, is a Spanish Catalan painter particularly associated with landscape painting. His artistic development included studies related to design and art, while extensive travels through Europe, North Africa and Asia contributed to his fascination with light, colour and landscape. Throughout his career, the natural environment became one of the central themes of his work. He has painted Mediterranean coastal scenery as well as landscapes connected with Catalonia, the Lluçanès region and the Pre-Pyrenees. Casademont’s paintings are characterized by softened contours, restrained colour harmonies and an atmospheric treatment of space. His landscapes frequently move away from strict topographical representation in favour of a quieter, poetic interpretation of nature. This approach gives his paintings a recognizable sense of stillness and timelessness, particularly evident in his Mediterranean and coastal compositions. ARTISTIC INSPIRATION Casademont Mercader belongs to the broad tradition of Mediterranean landscape painting in which atmosphere, colour and light become more important than strict topographical description. The luminous Mediterranean tradition of Joaquín Sorolla provides an important historical reference, while the emotional treatment of the Catalan landscape can also recall Joaquín Mir. In Casademont’s softer and more mist-filled compositions, the gradual dissolution of landscape into colour evokes aspects of Claude Monet’s atmospheric painting. There is also something of Nicolas de Staël in the way solid coastal forms are simplified into broad masses of colour, although Casademont remains firmly rooted in figurative landscape painting. These influences should not be understood as direct imitation. Casademont develops his own quieter visual language, transforming Mallorca and the Mediterranean coast into contemplative spaces dominated by horizon, colour and silence.
