This set of four Victorian clear crystal thorn vases, produced in Czechoslovakia circa 1890, demonstrates a highly expressive approach to late 19th-century decorative glass. Each vase is hand-blown, with a tall cylindrical body rising from an irregular, organically splayed base, and finished with applied clear glass thorns that spiral around the surface.
The thorn decoration is individually applied and manipulated while the glass remained hot, resulting in a dynamic, twisting rhythm across each piece. Variations in form, thickness, and placement are evident throughout the set, underscoring the hand-crafted nature of their production and giving each vase a distinct presence.
The clear crystal is of fine quality, offering strong clarity that captures and refracts light across the layered surfaces. The sculptural treatment of the exterior creates a lively interplay between transparency and texture.
