Amédée Rosier Art
French, 1831-1898
Amédée Rosier (1831 - 1898, French) Like many painters at this time he travelled extensively in Italy and the Orient, Constantinople, Africa and Egypt. However he was seduced by the charms of Italy and spent much time there capturing the magic of the architecture and everyday life especially in Venice. It is for these views of Venice that he has become so well known. A contemporary of Felix Ziem, like him he paints with great wit and skill. He was especially known for his talents as a colorist. He exhibited widely during his lifetime including in 1857 at the French Artists' Salon in Paris where he showed a history painting, 'The Naval Battle, Sébastopol'. In 1876 he won a medal at the Salon with a view of the 'Venice Lagoon by Moonlight' and in 1889 he won a medal at the Universal Exhibition with a painting 'The Grand Canal, Venice'. Rosier's paintings are held in many major museums and collections including: Paris, Musée d'Orsay Compiegne, Castle Rennes, Museum of Fine Arts Pau, Museum of Fine Arts.to

Education and personal life
