Anton Michelsen Gilded Sterling Silver Gilt Christmas Spoon, Artist Poul Hanmann Designer, 1977 The 1977 Anton Michelsen Christmas Spoon is gilded sterling silver with an enamel handle. It was designed the artist Poul Hanmann. The shaped handle depicts a red enamel rose growing up in the blue sky from a snow covered ground. The artist chose this design as a familiar Christmas design in Denmark. Dimensions: 6 1/2 inches long x 1 1/2 inches wide x 3/4 inches high. Poul Frederik Hanmann was a Danish painter born on September 20, 1915, in Copenhagen. He studied at P. Rostrup Bøyesen's painting school from 1945 to 1950, which greatly influenced his artistic style. Hanmann was known for his figure paintings, particularly of female nude models, which he depicted with a balanced and simplified composition. Over time, his work became more abstract, with fewer details, creating an ethereal quality in his paintings. Anton Michelsen opened his workshop in Gothersgade in Copenhagen in 1841 and by 1848 had become jeweler for the Danish College of Arms.
