Assouline Publishing Furniture

Assouline Publishing has made the coffee-table book cool again. The revolutionary company is best known for sumptuously illustrated books on fashion, art, travel and photography. Its exquisite hardcover volumes are beautiful to look at and are of impeccable editorial quality.

Assouline Publishing was established in 1994 by Prosper and Martine Assouline. The family company quickly outgrew its modest initial office, which was located in the basement of what was then the couple’s apartment, and the pair eventually opened a proper office on rue Danielle Casanova in the French capital city. Assouline’s initial offerings focused on designers, artists and fashion houses, with books about Azzedine Alaïa, Dior and Chanel captivating readers in the publisher’s early days. These books have sold millions of copies all over the world.

Owing to the decline of print media, luxury companies found in Assouline a venue to help showcase their products and adequately position their branding in front of consumers. From its earliest days, Assouline has published opulent hardcovers that broke the mold, from illustrated tomes celebrating fashion legends and high-society doyens to hand-bound limited-edition art monographs with Italian linen covers.

Highly anticipated Assouline titles, such as Yves Saint Laurent: The Impossible Collection, Chinese Art: The Impossible Collection and Art Deco Style, are published with consistency every year.

While books remain at the forefront of Assouline, the publishing house has also expanded into producing alluring decorative objects and furnishings for the home.

Today, Alex Assouline, the son of Prosper and Martine, heads Assouline Publishing. Under his guidance, the brand developed a lucrative new branch that is focused on curating private libraries for homes, offices, hotels and other commercial properties.

Discover a masterpiece of artistry and craftsmanship with this special edition of Living with Chamberlain—a must-have for discerning collectors. Limited to just 200 copies, each edition is truly an artwork in its own right, featuring a one-of-a-kind sculptural element crafted with repurposed metals sourced directly from Chamberlain's studio, along with a rare 1990 limited-edition print by the artist. Presented in a luxurious clamshell case, this edition is a rare and exceptional tribute to Chamberlain’s enduring legacy. Featuring a foreword by Rick Owens, and interviews and conversations with family, friends, gallerists, and collectors, this intimate and personal volume uncovers how Chamberlain’s art has impacted the lives of so many, including personalities as diverse as Chamberlain’s wide-ranging artistic expressions. Among the many stories contained, collectors Bruce and Barbara Berger recount how they traded a refrigerator for their Chamberlain sculpture in 1972; Yvonne Force Villareal shares how she met her husband, artist Leo Villareal, at an exhibition of Chamberlain couches; fashion designer Matthew Williams and artist Solange Knowles speak about their separate experiences with Chamberlain’s art and his creative influence on their own work; and fashion designer Vera Wang shares how a chance encounter at MoMA led to an unusual late-life friendship with the artist. Contributors include: Amy Astley; Joa Baldinger and Heiner Friedrich; Bruce and Barbara Berger; Darius and Jill Bikoff; Michael Black; David, Lauren and Sean Carpenter; Susan Davidson; Karen, Steven and Zoë Feldman; Urs Fischer; Larry Gagosian; Bob Gersh; Andrea Glimcher; Marc Glimcher; Eric Goodman; Jeff and Judy Greenstein; Karsten Greve; Wilhelm and Jutta Grusdat; Lana Jokel; Rainer Judd; Colin King; Solange Knowles; Bernard and Joanne Kruger; Nancy Magoon; Helen Marden...

Dreamwheeling. The stories behind 100 of the world’s most coveted automobiles. From the adrenaline-filled 24 Hours of Le Mans to the legendary Goodwood Festival of Speed, Lake Como’s famed Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este to the premier Monterey Car Week, the collector car calendar and market has shown one of the most extraordinary growth trajectories of recent years. As thousands flock to specialized meet ups, rallies, auctions, and Concours d’Elegance around the globe, asking prices for the rarest motors have revved higher and higher. So much so, that the value of the 100 cars included in this book exceeds a staggering $ 1 billion. For the seasoned car collector or the awestruck newcomer, this double-volume is the unrivaled collector car anthology. Curating 100 of the most exquisite, remarkable, and desirable cars of all time to tell a spellbinding story of automotive design-and-engineering endeavor in the tireless pursuit of ever-greater performance both on and off the track, from the first Indy 500-winning 1910 Marmon Wasp to the futuristic 2020 Aston Martin Valkyrie. Laps ahead of any generic catalog, this superlative volume exudes authority and elegance, settling for nothing less than the very best of the best, and presenting each model with the lavish spreads it deserves, complete with stunning imagery taken by the world’s leading car photographers alongside rare archival treasures, from original factory photos to famous motorsports event posters. Each entry is also accompanied by expert descriptive texts and specs, detailing each car’s make, model, year, engine size, horsepower, top speed, transmission, and all-important production numbers. By passionately tapping into their transatlantic expertise and insider knowledge of car auctions, museums, and collections around the world, design authors Peter and Charlotte Fiell survey the autoworld's finest cars of all time. Their carefully curated selection spans the whole history of the automobile, taking in such rare models as a 1912 Stutz Model A Bearcat, as well as lesser-known jewels such as the astonishing 1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C SS “Goutte d’Eau” Coupé by Figoni et Falaschi. This definitive compendium includes a foreword from Rob Myers, the founder of RM Sotheby’s, and includes an introduction from the authors that gives a unique perspective on the ins and outs of car collecting...

Gold—pure, indestructible, dazzling: Since the dawn of time, this precious metal has generated countless fantasies and beliefs. Whether it leads powerful rulers to the afterlife, casts a delicate glow on the Buddhist pagodas of Southeast Asia, illuminates the halos of saints, adds brilliance to the crowns of kings and popes, gleams on haute couture runways or glitters on a rapper’s grill, gold is an eternal symbol of wealth and glory, the prized element’s highly malleable nature lending itself to infinite metamorphoses. What accounts for such a lasting and universal fascination? Thanks to its irresistible luminosity and remarkable resilience, gold is the ideal medium to symbolize both visible and invisible forces. Artists from Gustav Klimt to Andy Warhol and Yves Klein have exalted its metaphysical and fantastic nature. Ancient Egyptians regarded gold...

The Missoni family lives life in color. They didn’t just revolutionize knitwear; they forged a lifestyle that, like their fashion, blends elegance with enthusiasm and spontaneity with sophistication. Missoni style is recognized and admired all-over the world and is collected by fashionistas and museums alike. This same streak of easy glamour also inspires Missoni family’s entertaining, and their dinner parties have become one of the most coveted invitations of fashion week. Lush and informal at the same time, a Missoni feast is not just a kaleidoscope of style with four generations of family wearing Missoni — it’s a kaleidoscope of tastes, scents, and colors. And whether the meal is for twenty or two hundred, it always features family recipes curated for the season and for the occasion, recipes which have now become legendary. And just as Missoni fans around the world collect the brand’s iconic zigzags, Francesco Maccapani Missoni, the son of Missoni’s creative director, Angela Missoni, collects family recipes — and as it turns out, their cuisine is just as singular as their style.
