Bold woodblock print by Bakufu Ohno (Japanese, 1888-1976). Signed "Bakufu Ohno" in Japanese, "B. Ohno" and stamped with the artist's chop in the lower right corner. A villager makes a small offering of dumplings and Japanese pampas grass arrangement for the full moon on "Ju-go Ya" (August 15th in the Lunar Calendar). Two kids are playing in the front yard under the quiet moon light. Presented in a tan mat with a distressed wood frame. Image size: 14.5"H x 18"W. Printed by Kyoto-Hanga, Tokyo Bakufu Ohno (Japanese, 1888-1976) was born in Tokyo, Japan. He worked primarily as a painter. He is best known for several series of fish prints which were created after Bakufu's paintings by professional carvers and printers and published by Kyoto Hanga-In. Print artists who were active during the first half of the twentieth century can usually be attributed to one of the two art movements of the period - the shin hanga or the sosaku hanga "camp" of woodblock printmakers.
