View from the Train: Cityscape Oil Painting, View of Brooklyn
By Patty Neal
Located in Hudson, NY
View from the Train, 2019 24" X 40" x 1", oil on canvas This contemporary oil painting depicting a metropolitan view is the work of realist painter Patty Neal. The painting offers an intimate view of the city, as seen from a window, as it peeks from behind two metal structures. The dark browns and bright golds beautifully compliment the dusty blue, gray sky. Neal works highlight everyday city scenes, utilitarian infrastructure, and industrial or electrical apparatus. Artist statement: A life is an accumulation of experiences: visual, emotional and mental. By compartmentalizing these snippets of life we create boundaries. The focus of my work for many years has been the exploration of these various life aspects and how they are bound together or bound from each other. My process is often literally composed of boundaries. I make a painting by putting together multiple panels, or I segment a single panel into separate visual spaces. The works are made up of pieces or elements of city and landscape. While exploring the concepts of boundaries I play with visual “reality.” Sometimes I combine images that are upside down with those that are not and juxtapose images from different contexts. Literal boundaries, such as walls fences, expanses of water and highway median strips are also used. My intent is to invite viewers to look beyond these boundaries to see the possibilities of a connected whole. Behind Pretty Things (2022), oil on wood panel painting by Max Vesuvius Budnick, portrait, patterns, faux naif Classic faux naif portrait and interiors oil painting by Max Vesuvius Budnick. The artist cannot resist painting an appealing pattern and loves to render them by hand. In this painting he renders the ribbed pattern of his green corduroy hat, the tropical jungle motif of his bandana neckerchief complete with tropical birds, the tropical palm leaf pattern of his cell phone case, the blue stripe pattern of his button down shirt and the purple gradient of the walls behind him as he poses for a selfie in the mirror. His red beard peeks out from behind his bandana and on the wall behind him is a framed print of the painting, "Floral Still Life," by WWI veteran and African American artist, Horace Pippin...

Rabid - Cinema Inspired One Eyed Male Figure, Oil Painting on Panel
Located in Chicago, IL
Inspired by a still from the 1977 horror film, "Rabid". This is the division of morality. A portrait of an individual cast mostly in shadow. The only portion of his face hit with light has no eye, leaving him to only see through his darkness. The bold heavy brushstrokes of this painting give an abstract quality where the shadows and light are transformed it into a dynamic and vibrantly alive scene. Georgia Hinaris Rabid oil on panel 18h x 18w in 45.72h x 45.72w cm GHS010 Horror films are the most profound and visceral of films, garnering the most extreme responses: vehement hatred and cultish admiration. Horror elicits a controlled neurosis while exposing the rejected weaknesses and brutalities of humanity. I embrace the power of cinema and its ability to alter perception, as it is media that is a reflection of our primordial desires. I’m fascinated by concepts involving the limits of human perception, the ambiguity of morality in relation to nature, the paradoxical nature of reality, and the human struggle to reckon with uncertainty. Humans bear the burden of being as we are, all caught in a flux of unbelievable cognitive abilities and animalistic instincts. Every painting is in its own universe and I cater to it. Nothing is precious. Chaos is embraced. City Glow: Cityscape Oil Painting of New York City in Pastel Palette
By Patty Neal
Located in Hudson, NY
Contemporary cityscape painting of New York City skyline with a light blue and green palette “City Glow”, painted by Patty Neal in 2019 18 x 18 inches on wood panel Wire backing, artist signature located in lower right corner This contemporary oil painting depicting a metropolitan view of New York City was painted by Brooklyn based artist, Patty Neal. Made with gestural impressionistic brushstrokes, this painting offers a view of the Manhattan skyline on a bridge through the window of a passing car. The mint green infastructure compliments the dusty blue and sandy oranges of the city in the background. This piece is traditional of Neal’s work which commonly highlights everyday city scenes, utilitarian infrastructure, and industrial or electrical apparatus. The cityscape scene is completed on wood panel with white painted sides. Artist statement: A life is an accumulation of experiences: visual, emotional and mental. By compartmentalizing these snippets of life we create boundaries.
