Hancock history begins in the heart of Victorian London with Mr Charles Frederick Hancock establishing his eponymous firm on the corner of Bond Street and Bruton Street in 1849. Dealing in the finest jewellery, silver and gemstones Hancocks quickly builds a reputation for excellence. Within a year the company had been granted a Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria and was soon counting many of the principle sovereigns of Europe as patrons.

The surface of the tea caddy is encompassed with bright cut engraved fabric swag designs and floral festoons, suspended from impressive spiralling foliate anchor-points accented with pensile bud designs.
Each spiralling motif flanks a shield shaped cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved initials 'WM' and surmounted with a ribbon style bow.
The upper and lower portions of the body are encompassed with engraved bands of chevron style decoration, in addition to an applied bead decorated border.
