All the prints are 26 x 31 inches, Mustang Peeler, Bombers and Buckaroos, The stranger, Guardians of the Range and Range Baby.
Note that “The Mustang Runner” is 3 inches shorter in height, 23 x 31 inches
The print by Till Goodan was originally a painting and reproduced by the Westward Ho company as a set. Westward Ho produced the most sought after Western dinnerware ever made. The most popular pattern was the Rodeo pattern by Till Goodan. He Illustrated and branded many accessories sold by the Westward Ho Company.
Tillman Parker Goodan 1896-1958
To the casual observer his paintings are exciting and colorful. To the scholars of the Western Era they are benchmarks of authenticity. Such is the style of Till Goodan. He was born Tillman Parker Goodan in Eaton, Colorado on March 27, 1896. His father was a true western pioneer, mayor of Eaton, publisher of its first newspaper, and County Commissioner for several years.
After moving to California in 1905 and settling on a little farm that bordered the Michel Cattle Ranch, Till spent much of his boyhood with the Michel sons working on their ranch. There he developed his expertise as a calf roper and the skills of a working cowboy.
As a young man Till pursued endeavors that would initially callous his emerging artistic hands. He worked for the famous Miller and Lux Ranch in California. He packed mules and ran pack trains into the Sierra Mountains. He broke horses and competed in local rodeos riding saddle broncs and roping calves. And during the quiet hours he would draw pictures of ranch life and the action of the rodeo. People began commenting on his talents as an artist.
In 1917 he left the rodeo circuit and turned his full attention to a career in art. He studied with Roger Sterrett, William Paxton, and Dana Bartlett, all highly respected California artists. Till soon became a free-lance commercial artist doing work for Grauman’s Chinese and Lowe’s Theaters, Helms Bakery and Security Bank. He later assumed a position as Art Director for the Richfield Oil Company. However, his first love was still the art of the old west, horses, cowboys, and ranching. So, he left Richfield and gave his full attention to the field of fine arts.
He did oil painting, water colors and lithographs. He drew the Gene Autry Comic Books. He illustrated and hand lettered a large collection of stories about famous bucking horses, ranches, horsemen of the world, and western gear. In association with W.C. Wentz, he started producing a complete line of western gift wares, ceramics, bronzes, leather, paper, and fabric.
By the 1930′s he was beginning to receive recognition for his western art and by the early 1940s, he and his daughter, Betty, were illustrating comic books for his longtime friend, Gene Autry. Betty was also a world champion cowgirl.
Till Goodan designs appeared in virtually every medium. But, the most famous was the four lines of dinnerware produced by Wallace China...

"Under the Apple Tree", Figurative Chromolithograph after George Niles, 188/250
By Louis Prang
Located in Soquel, CA
Original chromolithograph by Louis Prang (German/American, 1823-1909) of L. Prang & Co. (American, founded 1860), after "Under the Apple Tree" by George E. Niles (American, 1837-1898). This late 19th century figurative chromolithograph depicts a small boy in a country setting and period dress under an apple tree, reaching into a barrel with a basket of apples spilling into the grass. A German style chromolithograph, this limited edition 188/250 print was created with heavy, oil-based inks which were applied in several layers to impart a texture similar to an original oil painting.
Signed and dated in the plate "G.E. Niles 1867". Tag on verso with "Prang's American Chromos - Under the Apple Tree, after Niles - Chromolithographed and published by L. Prang & Co. ...Boston". Displayed in a rustic giltwood beveled frame. Image size: 9"H x 7.25"W.
Louis Prang was a foremost lithographer and publisher in New York City from the mid to the end of the 19th Century. Born in Breslau, Germany to a father who was a calico printer, he was an apprentice to his father during his teen-age years and then spent five years as a journeyman, learning printing and dyeing and living in Austria, France and England. However, Prang's liberal political vliews caused him to be deported by the Prussian government during the Revolution of 1848, and fled via Bohemia and Switzerland to get to America.
In 1850, Prang went to Boston, having stopped briefly in New York City, and became a publisher and taught himself wood engraving. In 1856, he turned to lithography in partnership with Julius Mayer. In 1860, he founded Louis Prang and Co., which was his own company and the first stiff competition to Currier and Ives.
A primary reason for this competition was Prang's active imagination and energetic pursuit of his business. During the Civil War, he published maps and battle plans so that people at home could follow military movements. He also created printed card portraits of Union soldiers...

High Desert
By Conrad Buff
Located in Wiscasett, ME
Oil on canvas, signed lower right. 1886-1975 Conrad Buff was born on January 15, 1886 in Speicher, Switzerland. From the time he was in grade school, Buff demonstrated an interest in art as he began to spend his spare time sketching. Noticing his determination, one of his teachers encouraged him to pursue art and music. As a result, early on in his life, Buff was confident that he wanted to become an artist. However, unable to convince his parents to send him to an art school, he was given a job as an apprentice baker and confectioner at the age of 14. After finally reaching a compromise with his parents, he enrolled at the School for Arts & Crafts, a state-run trade school of lace design in St. Gallen, Switzerland in 1900. Finding the work too arduous and limiting, Buff decided to leave the school in 1903. Although he was only 17 at the time, Buff moved to Munich in order to pursue his dream as an artist. In Munich, he was finally able to start painting. Nevertheless, he soon found himself without any money and dissatisfied with the lack of opportunities in Germany. He considered leaving Germany but was not sure whether it was the right move. After learning that a former classmate whom had left to America had settled in Wyoming, Buff felt reassured that America would offer him the opportunities he was longing for. In 1905, Conrad Buff made the journey to America with a group of immigrants who, similar to him, had no money or friends waiting for them. Without speaking a word of English, Buff found comfort settling in Wisconsin where there was a large Swiss population. In addition, he quickly recovered financially due to his hard work and determination. Still at the age of 18, Buff immediately found as a sheep herder as well as in a pastry shop. For a time, he also took on various odd jobs painting houses. Even with a full schedule, Buff managed to make time to take trips with his good friend Maynard Dixon (1875-1946) to Utah, New Mexico and Arizona, where he found inspiration for his landscape paintings. In 1906, he made his way to California, first arriving in San Francisco. However, after finding the city in ruins as a result of the great earthquake, he decided to head south to Los Angeles. There, he worked for a time as a yard man at the Lankersheim Hotel and then as a pot washer and Cook at the Westmore Hotel. Similarly, as in Wisconsin, Buff also found work as a house painter and subsequently became a contractor in Eagle Rock. Still focused on becoming an artist, Buff attended the Art Students League of Los Angeles from 1910 to 1913, but was dissatisfied with the instruction. He then attended evening drawing classes taught by William M. Praxton (1869-1941) at Los Angeles High School. From this point forward, his dream of becoming an artist started to be realized. In 1920, Buff had his first solo-exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Moreover, he had a close relationship with Edgar Alwyn Payne (1882-1947) with whom he made camping expeditions with Franz Bischoff...
