About the Item

Original poster: SOLDIERS-SAILOR AND WOMEN GUESTS welcome to the Y.W.C.A. hostess house "A bit of home within the camps". A sailor shakes the hand of a man while a woman is standing and smiling at them. Linen-backed original WW1 poster printed in semitone colors. Fine condition with original fold marks restored during linen backing. Rarely seen original vintage poster c. 1917 - 1918 The Lost Pottier & Stymus Bldg - 375-377 Lexington Avenue. The vacated factory was taken over by the YWCA in December 1918 to accommodate wounded servicemen returning from Europe. The six-floor "Hostess House" opened on Christmas Day. The New York Tribune reported that it had sleeping accommodations for 56, and noted "There is a comfortable lounging room, with books and magazines, where relatives of the boys may sit about and rest." This is an Original Lithograph Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is professionally acid-free conservation mounted and in good condition.
