The resultant large folio editions of 'The Holy Land' and 'Egypt & Nubia' are considered the greatest lithographically illustrated works issued in the 19th century. This lithograph depicts an imposing minaret in the background, a large mosque on the left and both sitting and standing groups of Egyptian men in conversation in the foreground. Roberts thought this minaret was the most beautiful he had encountered and was a prime example of the architecture of modern Egypt. It has four balconies with enriched balustrades supported by brackets and corbels...

G. Moon in 1843. The lithographs were prepared by Louis Haghe (1806-1885) from drawings and paintings by Roberts. The resultant large folio editions of 'The Holy Land' and 'Egypt & Nubia' are considered by many to be the most beautifully lithographically illustrated works issued in the 19th century. This framed hand-colored lithograph depicts a view of the interior of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. There are priests leading a service and many people at prayer. There are a large number of impressive lamps hanging from the ceiling, as well as very long floor standing candles. This beautiful hand-colored lithograph is presented in an attractive burl wood frame and a cream-colored mat. The framing and glazing utilizes museum quality archival materials. The frame measures 15.75" high, 19.63" wide and 0.5" in depth. The lithograph is in excellent condition. The resultant large folio editions of 'The Holy Land' and 'Egypt & Nubia' are considered the greatest lithographically illustrated works issued in the 19th century. The print is presented in a gold-colored wood frame with a decorative inner trim, with a cream-colored double mat. It is in excellent condition. The lithograph depicts the Fortress of Ibrim in Nubia in the background, which had been a Roman and an Egyptian fortification for centuries due to its strategic elevation, allowing a view of large portions of the surrounding desert. Men are securing the boat in the foreground for the night, taking down its sails. A herd of cattle drinks and cools themselves in the water on the left.
