Dipen Bose Figurative Paintings
Dipen Bose was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. He is a self-taught artist with no academic training in art. His grandfather, Nagendra Bose, inspired him to start painting. Initially, he learnt drawing and painting at Belgachia Pannalalshil Vidyamandir, presently called Manohar Academy, Kolkata. He learnt the technique of oil painting from artist Debi Prasad Roychowdhury. Bose started painting in 1947, after giving up his job at Central Excise Service in Kolkata. His association with the Indian Institute of Art and Industry and Indian Society of Oriental Art played a vital role in his life. He was close to Indra Dugar. Bose was also associated with Art in Industry and Rachana till 1952. These associations inspired him towards traditional Indian Art, French Impressionism and Chinese Art. In 1953 one of his paintings was presented to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany by the government of India. Bose has also written articles on art in newspapers and journals.
